"Everything turned out fine. When it first arrived, it was damaged in the shipping. It took them quite a while to get something back to us, or even to call me back when I wrote to them. But then, once they got the ball rolling, it went very quickly. It took them probably about a month to even get back to me. The price was very good. Once somebody actually did speak with me, they were very responsive. They were pretty professional when I spoke to them. I just think that they were light on manpower."

"I just moved into my new home and needed someone to mount my tv and audio visual equipment. I had heard of George through a friend who hired him and had a great experience. I had spoken to some people before that had higher quotes for this kind of work, but George said it would cost about $2000! I was thrilled. From the very beginning George and his associate were a pleasure to have working in our home. They were very professional and finished in only a day! I have since recommended him to several friends, and will continue to do so. I am planning on having some lights put around my pool in the backyard over the summer, and will surely be calling George for this as well!"

"We recently remodeled our 1960s kitchen and wanted to work with a local kitchen center that offered high quality semi-custom cabinetry.  Since Kitchen Center carried Brookhaven by Wood-Mode cabinetry and were only 15 minutes from our house, we decided to give them a visit.  We set up an appointment with Sara to discuss our kitchen project and got things kicked off right away.  We visited Kitchen Center a couple more times to work with Sara on the design (we already had a layout in mind and she helped us tweak to optimize the space) as well as selecting our cabinets and hardware.
Sara was great to work with - pleasant and precise - two requirements for a kitchen cabinet purchase.   She also recommended a couple contractors that she'd worked with in the past, which ensured we had a flawless experience all around.  After the installation, Sara stopped by to make sure everything was right - great customer service! Overall, our experience with Sara and the Kitchen Center was seamless, high quality and still relatively affordable.  I would recommend them to anyone working on a kitchen remodel."

"Very professional.  We used a Big Deal voucher to try the service.  Brenda had some good advice and seems to have a nice eye for design.  We were getting estimates for the work and ideas for the design from various vendors and ended up going with someone else we've worked with before."

"Craig is great to work with - he comes up with the full range of design ideas, from layout to details such as cabinets, appliances, lighting, countertops, paint color and tile design. We have always been extremely happy with the end result of his designs. We have used him on multiple projects and recommended him to friends and family."

"Friendly and quality professional workers. Getting an initial appointment scheduled with them was a bit of game of phone tag, but once that was scheduled I had a good experience. Mike came by before providing an estimate, he clearly laid out what he wanted to do and I received the quote 2 days later. They clearly answered my questions before scheduling the work. I had them change all outlets and lights on my 3rd floor which included adding new wire and breakers to my box on the 1st floor. They completed the work for 6 outlets, 6 lights and a new breaker/wire in 3 mornings. They created way less holes in my walls than I was expecting, all holes were very clean cut and easy to patch. Things were dusty from cutting drywall but overall everything was left very clean above my expectations. I did have to call them back to get info about quote/schedule/invoice every time. But the people on the phone were friendly and also responsive in their follow up."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

Before investing in motion sensor lights, there are a couple of disadvantages worth noting. For starters, they’re not as reliable as other forms of lighting. Motion sensor lights can be accidentally triggered by pets or wind, which can become a nuisance after a while. The opposite situation can occur, too, where they don’t turn on when you need them to.

Testing tools, such as Christmas light testers, non-contact proximity electrical testers, and multimeters, all simplify the process of testing Christmas lights. However, without one or more of those tools, testing Christmas lights the old-fashioned way only works sometimes. Without testing tools, the simplest testing method is visual inspection, which may or may not yield positive results.

While most general electricians can repair lamps and light fixtures, it is often better to hire a lamp repair specialist. Many electricians prefer larger jobs, such as fixing electrical systems or relocating fixtures, and may not offer lamp repair services due to the small scale of the work. Additionally, some lamps, particularly antique models, require dedicated expertise that a general electrician might not have. A lamp repair specialist will be familiar with various types of fixtures and can provide a more dedicated service. If you have already hired an electrician for a larger project, you can ask them to look at your lamp, but for a standalone repair, a specialist is typically the best option.

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.
