Lead paint can be found in almost 75% of all housing built before 1978 and a dangerous mold infestation could exist in any home no matter how old the home is. A professional inspection from ASAP Environmental is the best way to protect yourself before you buy.
"We had a pipe break in our kitchen ceiling and an issue with condo owners that felt “the mold was everywhere”. Christopher was amazingly knowledgeable and explained all of the issues without being an alarmist putting us all at ease and did a thorough inspection. As an architect for 40 years he was the best mold expert that I have met and would highly recommend them."

"Peter and his crew were great. Peter was prompt in responding to my inquiry and came out to the house to walk through the lead report and work that needed to be done with me. He gave me a number of options for remediating things and showed me where we could do things in a less expensive manner--explaining the costs and benefits of the different approaches. For example, in one area he told me it was going to cost a significant amount for him to remediate and that it would ultimately be much cheaper for me to replace a section of wood railing instead of remediating the paint. This was to my benefit and his detriment, so I really appreciated it. His crew remediated 15 historic windows and they fixed some cracked panes of glass without my even asking. Peter was very fair, always in communication, and they completed the work promptly and professionally. I highly recommend."

Northeast Remediation
Northeast Remediation
Northeast Remediation and Remodeling LLC is a full service environmental abatement company that safely removes lead paint and mold from residential and commercial properties throughout Massachusetts. Also specializing in window replacements and remodeling, Northeast Remediation can manage all aspects of the job you are looking to have performed.
"Northeast Remediation performed deleading on my home, involving replacement of windows and the garage door. The house passed re-inspection for full compliance as soon as they were finished. The only issue was that they had problems getting one of their suppliers to provide a custom sized replacement garage door in a timely manner. This delayed fully completing the job by about a month while they found a different supplier. However, they were generally very responsive with communication and the work quality was good so I would not hesitate to use them again."

"DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. We hired this company to remove paint from our clapboard siding and trim before having a painting company repaint our house. If you want a company that respects your property DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. On day one I overheard the field manager tell his crew “I don’t care, throw it in the bushes.” Also, other companies we’ve used for exterior work have provided a porta-potty, so the crew wouldn’t need access to our house when we weren’t home. When we noticed this wasn’t included in the contract, we inquired with the company and we were told the crew would go offsite to use the restroom. We later discovered the crew had been entering our house to use the restroom (and who knows what else - like dig through our belongings). They broke outdoor outlet covers. They flipped a circuit, but didn't tell me for days. The circuit also supplied our extra fridge/freezer, so everything needed to be thrown out. If you want a company that meets the guaranteed deadline outlined in the contract DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Our project was supposed to take two weeks. It ended up taking over 12 weeks. We were strung along and given 8 different completion dates throughout the project. If you want an abatement company that follows the Lead Safe Renovation Law DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. They did not follow the procedures outlined in the law (e.g tarp placement, tarp containment at the end of each work day, etc) and as a result they contaminated our yard AND inside our house. Weirdly, considering they are an abatement company, after the work started and I questioned why sanders fitted to HEPA vacuums weren’t being used, I was told they don’t own any sanders that hook up to HEPA vacuums. They hand sanded the trim, and used a power sander without hookup to a HEPA vacuum to finish-sand the clapboard siding (neither measure contained the dust). The worst part, one of the employees actually said to me “we both know Massachusetts doesn’t enforce the law.” This company knows that, so they will cut every corner possible. If you want a company that performs the work outlined in the contract DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I had to fight tooth and nail to get the work completed as agreed to in the contract. Hence the project being dragged out for more than 2 months longer than it was supposed to take. If you want a company that provides a great product in the end DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. They gouged our window casings, left areas un-sanded, and they ruined our siding, leaving sanding swirl marks and gouges all over the siding, which was supposed to be sanded smooth. I could go on and on with all the issues we experience with this company. Please, take my advice, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Sent from my iPhone"

Catchlight Painting
Catchlight Painting
Catchlight Painting is a professional residential painting company specializing in interior and exterior projects of all sizes including historic home restoration. Catchlight foremen and crew are experienced, skilled, courteous, tidy, and detail oriented. We are licensed, insured and lead safe certified.
"Even though their pricing was at the high end of the estimates we received, i chose them because of: their great reviews here and elsewhere; affiliation with WBUR public radio and Historic New England; their estimate was extremely detailed; and they work on a lot of old houses. I expected their attention to detail and customer service to be just as detailed as their estimate but they fell far short of meeting our expectations. If it weren't for me directing the painters each day, we would've had a number of areas that were either not painted at all, not properly prepped, or painted the wrong color. I gave one star because their painters did an acceptable job...but only because I had to manage them by myself. They needed direction, which the project manager Pete did not provide. And when he was here he never gave me a heads up; if I happened to notice Pete was here he would disappear before I could get outside to look at things with him. At the end of the job, even on the last day, he did not meet with us when punch list items should have been reviewed. They also refused to do the last bit of work we planned on. It was estimated separately because they were still discussing with us which floor sealer to use and another contractor had to install the gutters first before they came back to paint them. Pete, backed up by Nigel (the owner) decided they didn't want to work with us anymore because they “did not meet our expectations." Normally if a business admits to not meeting the expectations of their customer, they try to correct the problem to make the customer happy. In this case, apparently because we complained about the above issues as well as some damage to our antique hardware and floor, they dumped us with 1-2 days work left to do. (They didn't have to honor the second estimate because we hadn't paid a deposit yet - they hadn't billed us yet, though we technically had a verbal and written agreement via email). Lesson learned, if you arrange work on a separate estimate, be sure to pay the deposit so they are locked into finishing your job! When invoiced, they tried to charge us for work not done (I knew this because I was here everyday managing the job) so i had to ask them to reduce the bill by that amount. When I received the adjusted invoice, I asked for a discount due to our dismal experience, the amount of personal time I had to spend managing this project, as well as the damage that they did not address. The owner responded by threatening to have his lawyer put a lien on our house instead of first trying to make this right, which is the number one tenet of customer service. Incredibly disappointing and confusingly awful customer service. DO NOT HIRE THEM."
