"Tim and his helper arrived on time and proceeded to efficiently take care of reviving a stagnant garden fountain. Tim clearly knows all about water features and offered suggestions for its continued maintenance. He even went and purchased several rice fish and introduced them to their new home. Both young men were courteous and careful taking time time to prune back overgrown bushes and branches. I highly recommend them for any work on fountain and pond construction and maintenance."

"Green Valley has become a fixture in our neighborhood the past few years. The work Omar and his crew perform is second to none. He is highly professional, warm and accommodating, gets the job done as committed and is extremely reasonable with his prices. I almost hesitate to praise him because I’m afraid other clients will steal him away! Can recommend him without hesitation."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

DIY kits are available, but professional installation ensures proper water flow, electrical safety, and leak prevention.

You can choose several types of fountains to add to your backyard, ranging in size, number of basins, and special water features.

Check out the price ranges of common fountain types:

  • Birdbath fountains: $40 to $1,100

  • Cascading fountains: $40 to $2,000

  • Tiered fountains: $100 to $6,000

  • Kugel fountains: $150 to $5,000

  • Glass wall fountains: $100 to $3,000

When deciding whether or not to turn off your pump, you should consider your area’s climate and the aquatic life in your pond. If you live in an area with freezing winter temperatures and don’t have any wildlife, keeping your pump on could damage it. If you have aquatic life but live in a colder climate, you might consider keeping your pump running and adding a pond heater.

How many fish can call your pond home depends on the volume of the pond and the fish size. Your pond's filtration system also influences the number of fish that will thrive in a pond. A general rule of thumb is to have 1 inch of fish for every square foot in a pond that's 2 feet deep. Another rule of thumb you can follow is to have one koi fish for every 200 gallons of water or two goldfish for every 200 gallons.

A koi pond should be at least 5 feet deep to keep the fish healthy and ensure they don’t freeze in winter. Koi fish are also known for growing large, so the more room you have, the better. A larger koi pond size will allow the fish to grow bigger than a smaller one will, and the more fish you have, the bigger the pond you’ll need. Learn how to build a pond in your backyard to ensure it remains functional and aesthetically pleasing for a long time.
