All the work was done according to our contract and our deck came out fabulous! "I hired Bob to repair a door frame that was split, and he was fantastic. Bob was a clear communicator, came to the job prepared, and very friendly. He arrived on time, the quality of his work was excellent and fairly priced, and he finished the work faster than initially projected. Bob also went out of his way to do some additional touch-up paint work in the unit, and gave my girlfriend a small screwdriver for another repair in her apartment. I have no complaints, and will definitely use Pino Construction for any of my future repairs! I strongly suggest that you check with him for any of your future repair work too."

"The PGM Handyman team did an excellent job of repairing a structural issue I had with an existing deck. They worked effectively, responded to my request to correct one very minor issue, and overall did a great job repairing my deck, repairing the roof on my shed, and replacing my pull down attic steps and hatch door. I would definitely employ them again based on the work they did for me."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.

The least expensive way to build a pool deck is with concrete deck blocks, pressure-treated lumber, and the appropriate hardware for hanging joists and securing deck boards. With these basic yet durable deck materials, you'll have a pool deck that's built to last without the high price tag. You should also stain or seal the deck to protect it against the elements.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.
