"In general, we were extremely pleased.  From the very beginning stages of quoting and measuring, to the very end stages of the project, Brian and his crew were very easy to deal with.  We had about a half dozen large exterior contractor outfits come by and quote the job, and Brian made us feel the most comfortable out of all of them.  Vista was not the cheapest, but you certainly get a fair shake with them, and Brian did his best to match one of the other quotes we had received.  I feel you get what you pay for in a job like this, and these folks were right on in price versus value.  Brian explained all of his products in a knowledgable and professional manner, and also had a good mechanical understanding of what needed to be done in order to perform the job correctly.  That being said, there were no surprises at the end of the project in regards to our quote.  Once my wife and I signed the agreement, that is what Brian held the price to (regardless of the inevitable hiccups that come up in a project like this).
The crew from Vista were punctual, and worked nearly every day (weather permitting of course) until the project was completed.  Any delays, or days which required Vista's crew to not work on our home, Brian was excellent about communicating with us.  At least a day in advance (not that morning) Brian would either call, stop by, or email us to keep us in the loop.  As a matter of fact, Brian was very accessible to us from start to finish.  He was great about returning any messages, but typically was just a phone call away during normal business hours.
As far as the quality of the work performed?  For the most part, we loved the whole project.  One of the details that sets Vista apart is, well, the details... the crew was very clever with several very fussy portions of our home, and carefully "wrapped" and sided around spots other contractors would have either not dealt with, or done a poor job.  The siding is ruler straight, and you can actually follow a single row from one corner of the house, around all of the nooks and crannies, and have it perfectly meet back up with where you started... very good attention to detail.  There were about a half dozen or so gripes I had during the work (not because of the crew, more because I am a little fussy), and Brian would typically come out the next morning to take a peek with me.  The other nice part about Vista, is how they handle these little speed bumps in the project.  Brian explained how his crew would go about making the repair or adjustment... and they would do it.  No lip service, but results.
I honestly believe if a homeowner expects a project like a major exterior renovation to go 100% smooth from beginning to end, they are in for a rude awakening.  Brian seemed to do his very best to smooth out the process, from getting the dumpster here, to scheduling the work, to returning promptly to view and rectify any minor issues.  What separates a good contractor like Vista from most of the other contractors we have had in our home, is the professional manner in which they overcome adversity.  At least twice during the project, Brian said with a good laugh and a smile "Hey, this is all about making you happy...", and in the end, we are happy.
We have had many neighbors stop by unannounced to ask us about the work being performed, complimenting us on the workmanship and color of the home.  Vista helped us go from the ugliest house on the block, to the nicest.  I would hire them again for similar work, and plan to call Brian (Vista is now on speed dial) in the very near future for some additional work."

"

Everything went well.  Workers came and cleaned up.  No problems with installation.

If you want your windows done, call them.  If you are "thinking about it".  Don't call.  They will call you daily afterwards.  I had to block them from my phone as they continue to call me every 2 days for what I don't know.  Work was well but the phone calls are annoying.

"My main goal in using this service was to get an idea of just what value my house had. I have lied in the house (built in 1890) for thirty years. I have personally done some renovation but I mostly have had professional electricians and plumbers do their work.
My city in Massachusetts revalues real-estate annually. (How else can the teachers and other over-pensioned public employees get their benefits? :-)  It has had a rash of tear-downs and subsequent erections of many McMansions. Currently, an over-supply of $1 million to $5 million houses exists. In fact the over-supply is a few times MORE than the other price ranges combined.
I live about two blocks away from a fairly pricey neighborhood, but my house is next to a very busy intersection. A neighborhood school and public transit are nearby. So, I wanted to get an idea if continued maintenance or improvement was better financially than doing the only the barest of work; i.e., a positive NPV (net present value).
The owner and his assistant called me separately about a week after we met. I did not detect any hard-sell. When I get my tax bill for the year 2015 I will know if the company helped me to determine a current value that matched the city's assessment. As for answering the question of a positive NPV for any improvements, I do not expect a clear answer as markets can change somewhat quickly.
     1) They offered a thirty-day guarantee on pricing ... I don't feel comfortable taking fewer than thirty days when I have considered projects to improve my house; in fact, I have taken longer than for previous work I have done.
     2) when I hear "proprietary software", bells ring as in the stock market's "proprietary algorithms" for High Frequency Trading
(basically the transfer of profit to the insiders (the pay-to-play game).
     3) I have seen the one-stop fits-all model before. A local wood floor installer has a company name that implies it is local to Boston. In fact, it sub-contracts to those available in the METRO Boston area (the two installers came from southern NH, about 35 miles away).
     4) One price estimate to power-wash my rear deck was $3,200. I have power-washed my deck several times. I own a power-washer. They priced a new rug for the front stairs that also seemed a little high.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Options include tempered, laminated, and tinted glass for various needs.

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

Their thickness depends on application, but most glass walls are typically 3/8 to 3/4 of an inch thick. Although it’s not as common, single panes of glass can also be 1 inch thick.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.
