The quality of the work is excellent, and the new roof looks great. They kept the work area clean and communicated well throughout the process. "It went great. We were in good hands with the Ranieri family throughout the entire project. They are extremely reliable, diligent about keeping us informed about the process, and deeply knowledgeable about concrete deck installation and pool installation and care. Our 30+ year old 20x40 inground pool had crumbling old pavers around it and the pool plumbing needed replacing before we could put a deck in. The Ranieris were a one-stop-shop for this work. They replaced the plumbing, installed a new skimmer box, and poured a gorgeous curved edged 10' patio on one side and 4' deck around the rest of the pool. They are excellent communicators, keeping us informed all throughout the process and coordinated directly with our electrician to get the new ground wire installed and permitted before they poured. No hiccups at all with this process. This work happened this spring 2022, so there were supply and delivery issues with concrete that are outside of the contractor's control. From our perspective, the wait wasn't too bad, and the Ranieris kept us informed every step of the way. Their work is both art and science. We love what they built for us. We would hire the Ranieris for any future projects, and we highly recommend them."

"Originally I had a different contractor lined up to do this work.  At that contractor's request I purchased an 8 ft slider in pieces to be assembled rather than as a module (already put together).  My original contractor delayed and delayed so I hired A few good tradesmen to come in and do it instead.  They did a great job.
First Brian came over to look at the door and give me an estimate for the work.  He was running late but called to let me know and to make sure it would still be a good time to come.  The quote was higher than what my original contractor was going to charge but I liked Brian and just wanted the door installed so I went with it.  I feel like I got my money's worth.
Brian's guy, Sam came on Saturday morning to do the work and was right on time.  As I mentioned, the door was in pieces and needed to be assembled and installed.  Generally a sliding door comes pre-assembled as a "module".  I had a couple of other contractors come to look at the door.  They both said they had never seen one like this before and they never got back to me with a quote... Right away Sam told me that he had done a lot of sliders but never one that required assembly like this before.  He took the time to study the installation instructions and figured out how to install the door correctly.
On the non-operating side of the slider, A deck railing post butts right up to the seam between the wall and the new slider.  Normally this seam would be sealed with silicone.  Because of the way the post butts up to it, it's impossible to get the silicone in there.  Instead of just hoping I wouldn't notice (which I probably would not have), Sam showed me the problem and explained that he put a lot of silicone in-between the wall and the door so it should still be water tight.  I appreciated his honesty, which is rare in my experience (especially with contractors).
Whenever I need anything done on my home I will definitely be calling these guys first.  I've already asked them to come back to replace a window for me.  I highly recommend them.

"Everything went wonderfully with this company.  They were very professional, listened to exactly what my problem was, and explained to me how they were going to diagnose the problem and/or solve it before doing any actual work.  Once they started, the team (three people came) worked together like a well-oiled machine.  One was in the room with diagnostics, one was at the fuse box looking for possible problems there, and the third went into the crawlspace beneath our house to look at the physical wiring.  Once the problem was found (there was a faulty wire beneath the house that had come loose from the junction box), it was fixed and tested within minutes and another full diagnostic was done to make sure there were no other possible issues.  They cleaned up after themselves very neatly.  They also replaced the light switch with a dimmer switch at no extra cost!  Well within my budget, and came in even lower than their original (FREE) estimate!  I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Bergen County area.

"Andrew Wells has been a gift from God for my dire situation. I have an extremely old house which needs extensive repairs, and through Home Advisor's recommendation I hired Andrew Wells to repair numerous holes in the soffit to prevent bats and squirrels from entering my attic. So far, he has done an incredible job! I am so impressed by his honesty and devotion and reasonable prices that I intend to hire him for future repairs/work. He truly is a blessing to the field of contracting and I am most grateful that I found him through Home Advisor. Thank you!!!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

For a 12x20-foot (240-square-foot) deck, you can expect to pay between $7,200 and $14,400. This cost is based on a general price of $30 to $60 per square foot. The final price will depend on factors such as the decking material, design complexity, deck type, location, and local labor costs. Keep in mind that add-ons will increase the total; for example, adding an under-deck drainage system to a deck of this size could cost an additional $7,700.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

That depends on the condition of your deck. An older deck that looks drab, worn, or has multiple damaged boards might be worth replacing before selling. However, if your deck is in good condition, you can simply clean, repaint, or stain it.

When building an outdoor or deck gate, it's crucial to use durable wood that can withstand harsh weather conditions like sunlight, rain, wind, and snow. Redwood and cedar are excellent choices as they naturally resist decay. While redwood is considered more elegant, cedar is a more affordable option. Other suitable woods include oak and pressure-treated pine, which is specifically treated to resist rot. Although some softwoods like pine are popular, untreated softwoods such as pine and spruce should generally be avoided for outdoor projects because they are susceptible to damage from water, rot, and the sun. Ultimately, it's wise to consider your local climate when selecting the right wood for your gate.

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.
