Bed bugs do not always go away after one treatment. A small case may be a one-and-done deal, but many infestations need about two to four visits within about six weeks to fully eradicate the pests in your home. It’s critical to stick to your treatment plan to ensure any existing eggs don’t hatch and create a new infestation.

The term “gnat” is sometimes used as a blanket term to refer to both fruit flies and fungus gnats, as well as a variety of other tiny flying insects. However, the true one true “gnat” by name is the fungus gnat. While people may mistakenly lump both insects under the term "gnat," fungus gnats and fruit flies have different diets, habitats, and characteristics from each other, as well as the other small flying insects in the “gnat” category.

Ticks are most commonly found behind (or even inside) ears, behind knees, in belly buttons, in the hair, and in your underarms. If you find a tick on your body or on your pet, use a pair of clean tweezers to grab the tick as close to the surface of your skin as possible. If you simply yank or twist it, you can leave the tick’s mouth parts lodged in your skin and will need to remove those carefully with the tweezers. 

Once you have removed the tick, flush it down the toilet and wash your skin with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Know the signs of lyme disease such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, and a rash.

When you’re checking for bed bugs in your home, start by searching for the telltale signs rather than the insects themselves, as they tend to stay hidden during the day. Here are the key signs of a bed bug infestation:

  • Rust-colored or reddish stains on mattresses and bed sheets

  • Dark spots on fabric

  • Shed skins

  • Fecal matter (looks like black spots)

As for fleas, you can typically spot them on your pet. If you notice them scratching themselves excessively, look for bites and bugs on their skin and fur.
