The erection crew and the sheet metal crews were different and each one generally showed up about 11:00 am each day and left at about 4:00 pm, so they never worked for any appreciable time period, and we never knew when they would show up or if they would show up; this is why it took weeks to finish a building that should have taken much less time in my opinion. The framing quality was marginal at best and the crew cut everything with an Echo chain saw, so the cuts were generally crooked and ugly; and there are bent nails everywhere. The material handling and housekeeping at my jobsite was terrible and both crews wasted a significant amount of materials; lumber, nails, screws, insulation, sheet metal, trim - you name it. Safety was also an issue and this was addressed with the owner, who seemed concerned but nothing happened to correct the issues, so I had to correct them myself. The structural erection crew in several cases installed crooked and damaged lumber, which had to be replaced.
The ceiling joists arrived at my worksite mildewed, and the company who delivered the structural lumber and associated materials made little effort to protect anything from the elements. If I hadn't covered the sackrete, it would have all been ruined due to inclement weather. The lumber eventually mildewed so much that I had to purchase a small sprayer and applied bleach and water to clean it up.
The first sheet metal crew performed so poorly that they were replaced by the builder and another crew came in and removed everything that they did. It took several weeks to finally get the sheet metal installed on this relatively small structure due to the problems with the sheet metal crews.
The company did not communicate effectively any time after the initial sale of the building, and I had to unfortunately get unpleasant with them to finally make the point that I wanted to get the building finished. Generally, I found that I couldn't believe a thing that they told me, and was elated to finally have my small shop finally completed today.
The company has absolutely no quality control and the quality of the finished product is solely reliant on the expertise of the field crews, or in my case, the homeowner. I attempted to get other quotes from other popular Lake Area contractors but one came in sky high and the other competitor's sales staff was so dingy that I eventually settled on this builder. On a positive note; the young man that they sent to clean up did a fantastic job and his efforts are appreciated.
