"In August 2023, I had a slab leak. Mr. Terry from American Plumbing came and did a leak detection. It was a cold water line slab leak and I had to get 1 cold water line rerouted.. Fast forward to January 2024, some tiles in my floor felt warm to touch which I knew had something to do with pipes. I called Mr. Terry from American Plumbing and he came out that following Monday and performed a leak detection. It was a hot water slab leak from 2 lines. This time, Seth and Logan came out the very next day to reroute 2 hot water lines. One to the washer and one to the kitchen sink. These two guys are so awesome. Again, very knowledgeable and answered every question I had without hesitation and without getting annoyed. This company is top tier. From the initial phone call with Chelsie (both times) to Mr. Terry coming out, to Seth and Logan performing the repairs. I recommend this company everytime."

"Mr. Devin responded within a minute to my request for service on Angies List even though he was on another call. He provided me with an initial time frame for his arrival at my job site. He communicated with me about 30 minutes after our original conversation about his specific expected time of arrival. He and a very able assistant arrived on schedule. They quickly assessed the problem and took action to clear the clogged main drain line to which the toilet drained. The job site was left clean. The cost for his service was almost half the amount quoted by another plumber."

Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.

To unclog a plumbing vent, you first need to locate it. Look at your home's roofline. The plumbing vent will be a vertical pipe sticking straight up from the roof. Since this pipe runs all the way to the main drain underneath your house, you should also be able to find it in the attic.

Plumbers use a variety of tools to help unclog the toughest of drain clogs, but the most common tools they use are drain snakes and augers. They try a plunger or drain snake to start, then move to heavy-duty augers, and finally try using a hydro jetter to blast away the clog with high-pressure water. If you have a sink stopper, it can feel more challenging to clean the drain without removing it, but here are a few simple steps:

  • Pour ½ cup baking soda into the drain using a funnel

  • Pour 1 ½ cups vinegar into the drain

  • Close the sink stopper for 15–20 minutes

  • Open the drain

  • Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain (be cautious as boiling water can damage some types of pipes)

If the drain isn’t unclogged, repeat the process.
