Small jobs welcome

"Sam mounted a TV for me and did a great job. He showed up when he said he would, took his time making sure everything was level and secure, and made the whole process easy. You can tell he cares about doing clean, professional work and not just rushing through the job. The TV came out exactly how I wanted it, and he made sure everything looked right before he left. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone needing a TV mounted or help with home tech installs."

".After our home was broken into in January 2014, I was motivated to install a security system. I asked my family about the services they use, and several people warned me about the small print in most contracts, and how tough it is to get out of contracts. Angie's List was running a special with Security One/Safe Home Security systems; they are highly rated, so I bought the special. I am very pleased with the level of customer service: they responded quickly via email or phone to all of my questions. Their technician guided me on the doors & windows to select for motion sensors. I am able to track disarming of the security pad by user via email, which means an email pops up whenever my kids come home/disarm the system. I am also able to track arming/disarming via their mobile app, or use the mobile app to arm/disarm the house. The monthly payment plan is affordable & there are no contract surprises/changes written in. They also guide me on things I would have forgotten, like registering my alarm system with the local police. I appreciate their guidance and service.

"I first decided to go with Link Security for my home alarm and surveillance cameras, but after talking with Cox to get activated for Cable and Internet, Cox talked me into signing up for HomeLife too, their security package, to save about $400 (But Link cameras were better). But after reading Cox's Homelife reviews that night (average at best), I decided to go back with Link. And I could not be any happier with the decision I made. Link did a fantastic job with the installation, as clean as can be. Gerrit was very punctual, and was very informative. I cannot be any happier with the product also. The cameras are very nice looking, so it looks nice outside my house. The pictures and videos are great. There's a DVR recorder that allows for easy live viewing and 10 days playback, hooked right up to your TV. You can also set up the app on your iPhone and iPad to do the same, and it is so user friendly. Or you can even use an Internet browser. My home security system, I can arm/disarm using my iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. And of course, there's a keypad. But what a convenience not having to arm and run out the house in 30 seconds! Or being able to arm it from your own bed. All in all, this was a perfect transaction. If you are looking for home security and/or surveillance cameras, Link is it. Their pricing is very reasonable. They were right in the middle of all the quotes that I got, but I assure you the little extra you pay than the bottom tier is for the quality you will get! Thanks Gerrit!"

Home Automation questions, answered by experts

Keep it clutter-free, ensure bright lighting, and follow staging recommendations to maintain visual appeal.

A fireplace can increase a home's value by as much as 12%, with some reports indicating that homes with fireplaces list for around 13% more than the median sale price. Fireplaces are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, adding a charm that many homebuyers find desirable. The actual return on investment depends on the fireplace's size, type, and material.

However, a fireplace can detract from a property's value if it is unusable, not up to code, or in need of immediate repairs. The type of fireplace also matters; custom electric fireplaces and inserts can add value, while freestanding units that can be removed have less impact.

Fresh baseboards can increase a home’s value because they refresh the look of your walls. This can make a good impression on buyers and potentially boost your home’s resale value. This is particularly helpful if your existing baseboards are in bad shape, which can age the look of your walls.

Consider also investing in the cost to install shoe molding for an extra-polished look that can further boost resale value.

Yes, removing a fireplace can decrease your home's value, as it is a sought-after feature for many buyers. The potential loss in value is estimated to be between $1,000 and $5,000. The impact can vary by market and climate; for example, a fireplace is more valued in colder regions like Minnesota than in warmer areas like Florida.

However, if a fireplace is in poor condition and needs extensive repairs, removing it might be a reasonable option. When deciding, weigh the benefits of removal (more floor space, less maintenance, reduced energy loss) against the potential decrease in home value. If you plan to sell soon, it is generally advised not to remove it.

It is generally better to stage a house than to leave it empty, as it can help the home sell faster and for a higher price. Staging helps potential buyers envision themselves living in the property. According to the National Association of Realtors, more than 75% of buyer’s agents report that staging makes it easier for buyers to build a connection with the home. Furthermore, a 2018 survey of over 4,200 professionally staged homes revealed that most sold for 6% to 25% more than their unstaged counterparts. Using a professional staging service can improve a buyer’s opinion of your house and may lead to higher offers.
