Small jobs welcome

"I was shocked to wake up early one morning to find out my sofa delivery from Walmart was coming one week earlier than expected. Then I found AUGUST POWER SOLUTIONS to come in and save the day. They immediately worked with my schedule. They kept in contact to make sure that the job was finished as soon as possible. Mr. Steven August and his son, Steven Jr. arrived exactly as they said, and even managed to take care of a few other tasks in preparation of bad weather the next day. It is good to know that Angi is an available resource to consult and then provide such a valuable service like AUGUST POWER SOLUTIONS from Jeanette to all of Acadiana. Their work was excellent and efficient. Most of all I know that I can count on their reliability. Now that I have established a working relationship, I will be sure call upon AUGUST POWER SOLUTIONS again in the near future. Tanya Z. Oil Center Lafayette, LA"

"The evaluation to determine generator size was excellent. Very detailed by a very knowledgeable gentleman. Answered all my questions and further advised those things I should want to follow on installing my generator. Optimize were right on schedule the stated day of installation. Excellent young crew, very knowledgeable and worked together very well. They were able to install the generator and electrical, had to wait on trenching the gas line as to wet and muddy in my back yard. Follow the end of the week, once things dried up they trenched and laid the gas line and test rain the generator. Optimize applied for all permits, a complete turn-key job done excellent. I would highly recommend these guys for any of your generator needs!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.

Yes, the majority of appliances that run at 240v will work with a 220v outlet, but will often run slower and may have a slight delay in turning on. This could also cause long term damage to the appliance being used, so it’s recommended to always use the correct voltage for your appliance and upgrade to a 240v outlet if needed.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

Electric water heaters use a high amount of electricity, so they’re best for homeowners who subsidize their electric bill with solar or who live in an area with inexpensive electricity. For others, gas water heaters versus electric water heaters may be the more cost-effective solution, with the added bonus of heating water quickly and efficiently. No matter which you choose, you can lower your water temperature as low as possible to keep costs down.

The color of your cable will help you to identify its function. In the U.S., the National Electrical Code (NEC) designates the color code for electrical cables. “Hot” cables are black, red, and blue. In cases of higher voltage lines, orange might also be used to indicate a hot cable. White or gray indicates a neutral, and green or green with a yellow stripe indicates a ground.
