"The experience was amazing!! I know nothing about tree removal/trim but Brody and Steve took time to explain each procedure that I felt empowered to make the right decision for our tree issues. I appreciate their time to explain most of all. After the work was done Mom and I were very pleased. Thanks guys!"

"Billy Broussard was professional from start to finish.  Billy did the cutting and trimming himself, while his crew cleared the debris from our yard.  I wanted the stumps ground and debris cleared for a future flower bed.   Billy made arrangements for another server to come in and complete the job to our satisfaction.  Working with Billy was definitely hassle free and completed in a timely manner.  I would highly recommend his service.

"Black Widow Outdoor Services exceeded my expectations. If punctuality, professionalism, courtesy and attention to detail is important to you, Black Widow should be your choice. They did such an amazing job for me that I hired them for a second job. The worksite was even immaculately clean when they left. They are truly a 5 star company. This small business will not be small for long..."

"I'm EXCEPTIONALLY satisfied with the work performed by Perrodin's Lawn Service.  I found this company on Angie's List and gave them a call.  I live in Virginia and needed work done in Opelousas, La.  I texted pictures of the work that I needed to get completed and was quoted a price over the phone.  Within a few days they went out to the job site and gave me a final quote and began to complete the job.  I must say that not only did this company do a GREAT job but their customer service is outstanding.  Working with this company provided a PHENOMENAL experience.  This is a TOP NOTCH company and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company to anyone needing work in their work coverage area.  Admirable work with outstanding customer service.  No other company can compare to the QUALITY this company provides their customers.

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

A tree can split because of high winds, a change in temperature, or from an infestation or tree disease. All of these factors can overlap, making a single cause difficult to pinpoint. While winter storms are some of the most common causes for a tree to split, it can also happen because of termites or rot.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000 per tree, depending on size, location, and accessibility.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.
