We did have a minor leakage problem with the first rain, but we called and they were back here within a couple of days to fix the problem and we have had no leakage since. The company that did our original waterproofing has left Kentucky and our "lifetime" transferable warranty is now void, so having been burned once we were a bit leery, but they proved to be a very reliable company. Do some research before hiring a concrete contractor . Consider asking whether the contractor is insured, if they can provide references of past clients you can contact, and if this type of work requires a permit. Another potential question is how long they guarantee their work.

Standard residential stair treads need to be at least 1 inch thick. Open staircases without risers must be at least 1-1/2 inches thick. 

Stone steps are often more expensive than concrete steps as they are specially cut and installed, on top of the material costs. Concrete is more readily available as many steps are precast, although custom-poured concrete steps are an option more similar in price to stone steps.

In many cases, you will need a building permit for your patio, but it depends on the type of patio. Generally speaking, any improvements to your land considered “permanent” will require a permit. Since a concrete patio is a permanent foundation, you will need a permit. On the other hand, a paver patio or flagstone patio usually sits over gravel and sand, are considered “temporary” improvements, and rarely require permits. To be safe, you should always ask your building department or your patio company if a permit will be necessary.

Cobblestone is just one of many driveway materials. Other, more economical, albeit less elaborate options include concrete, asphalt, and gravel. 

If you want a material that most closely resembles cobblestone, your best option is bricks or pavers. Both cost anywhere from $10 to $50 per square foot and can be laid in all kinds of patterns. Depending on the type of paver you choose, you can also get a good bang for your buck by investing in durable natural stone.
