"ADT is the best company to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"In 2005 we met John Butler and found him to be great. Our plan was to have contractor to do a gutting of our home and do most work, but electrical and painting would be done by ourselves. The working around our schedule was a challenge for John, so we went with a different contractor. We were impressed by John's integrity. After the remodel we were often wishing that we had chosen him instead of our choice. To fix our doors we called John. His estimate was $500 since he thought it would involve much more. When Ryan arrived he found the fix was much less, because the original contractor did not install the doors correctly. The final bill was $210.....now that is what I like about John.....INTEGRITY! Benchmark will be taking care of our home for years to come."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Rekeying should be done when employees leave or keys are lost, while replacement may be necessary for outdated or damaged locks.

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe, and their security depends on the type and quality of the lock. They cannot be picked like a traditional lock and often include added features like biometric access, PIN codes, and smartphone connectivity, which can make them more secure. However, they are not without risks. Potential vulnerabilities include hacking for Wi-Fi-connected models, battery failure, power outages, and technical malfunctions. To maximize security, it is important to choose a reliable brand, stay on top of software updates, and perform regular maintenance. While the risks are different, keyless locks are not considered more dangerous than traditional locks.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

Many local hardware stores have the equipment to copy basic keys at a low cost. Some locations may have freestanding machines where you can pick out a blank and insert it and your original key into the duplicating machine.

There are several situations when you should change or replace your locks to ensure your home's security. Key moments include moving into a new house, after a break-in or attempted break-in, or when a roommate or anyone else with a key moves out. It is also wise to change your locks if you lose your keys, especially if they have an address attached or you suspect they were stolen. Finally, if your locks are old, broken, worn out, or have become unreliable, they should be replaced.
