"Jim for Donhohues Lightning Rods installed the lightning rod system in my home. When the work was done I was very happy as their installer came as per promised time, and perform the work. If only half of your outlet works, there are usually two possible causes: faulty wiring or a half-hot outlet. This is to protect against ground faults, which are more common around water. Depending on local electrical codes, you may need at least one GFCI outlet in these rooms, or every outlet in the area may need to be GFCI protected.

While you might not need to put lights and outlets on separate circuits, some local codes may require that you use separate circuits. Installing a separate circuit helps prevent total darkness in your home when your receptacle outlets take on too much power and blow a fuse or trip the breaker. It also costs less and is easier to simply install a new circuit.

You don’t need an electrician to change an outlet—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hire one. If you stay home during the project, ask your electrician to cut the power supply to all exposed electrical wires to keep your family safe.
