"The installers were very professional and polite. Made sure I was pleased with their work. They did an excellent job and told me if any problem occurred to call them and they would come out to see what it is. I am very pleased with my wooden fence. I will definitely brag on my fence. "Blair?s Handyman Service was contracted to install our purchased Sharing Box and did an outstanding job. In addition to the installation, BHS constructed a custom surround complete with a rock-covered rack that is both visually appealing and highly functional, allowing space for larger items. Despite being located in an area subject to strong Kansas wind gusts, the Sharing Box has remained completely secure. The workmanship and attention to detail resulted in a durable, stable installation that is clearly built to last for many years."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Ideally, your concrete should set slightly above ground at an angle sloping away from the fence post. This will add extra support and allow water to run away from the wood fence post. Keeping water out will help prevent wood rot. Additionally, you can add soil on top of the concrete for a seamless finish.

Most people prefer to keep the fence level by “stepping” the fence when running a horizontal fence over a slope. Stepping involves raising each panel between the posts as the fence moves over changes in slope, giving the fence line the appearance of stair steps. While this may be the preferred method of running a horizontal fence up a slope, there’s nothing wrong with installing your fence so it follows the undulations in the ground instead.

You shouldn’t try to touch the electric fence, as it will shock you. Typically, the shock is low enough to be uncomfortable to humans or animals that come into contact with the fence. But an electric fence with high voltage, or a faulty fence, could shock you and cause serious injuries when touched.

Pickets should sit at least 2 inches off the ground to encourage groundwater to flow underneath. Pickets can sit as much as 6 inches off the ground, but setting it any higher could let pets in or out of your yard unintentionally. These are not to be confused with the fence posts anchored underground with soil or concrete footing.

The most affordable metal fence type is wire at just $3 to $5 per linear foot. Wire fences come in a variety of styles and do a good job of marking perimeters and keeping animals in or out of certain areas. While they’re very easy to install and repair, many homeowners find them unattractive, and many homeowners associations won’t allow them.
