"The job was a bit expensive, but it's not a small house, though a neighbor is getting their house done by someone else for $1000 less. The house and trim look good, until you get really close. House color on trim edges that should be a different color. All over spray wasn't cleaned up well, no masking was done. Lots of paint on the driveway, in the grass and on the upper deck. Areas in the yard where brushes and equipment were cleaned, or where paint was spilled are now dead, I will have to reseed those areas when it gets cooler. For the most part we are satisfied, but attention to detail was lacking."

Pressure Washing questions, answered by experts

Professional cleaning removes built-up dirt, mold, and mildew, preserving exterior surfaces and improving curb appeal.

A good psi for a general-use pressure washer is 2,000 to 3,000 psi. Some surfaces will require a softer touch, such as a cedar deck, which should be washed at the lowest setting, but heavier-duty jobs like removing stubborn stains from your driveway will need pressure at the higher end.

Yes, you can pressure wash vinyl siding. Because vinyl is a pretty durable material, it can withstand up to 3,000 psi. However, you’ll still need to be cautious and operate the pressure washer correctly to avoid costly damage to your home’s exterior. Remember to repair cracks or damage to your siding before you clean it with a pressure washer.

Much like wood siding, it can be dangerous to use a pressure washer on composite siding. While normally durable, composite siding isn’t made to stand up to higher pressure settings. It also makes it very easy to damage the paint or finish on the siding. Some professional power washing companies may take the job on, but we recommend avoiding it, especially as a DIY project with a rented pressure washer.

A pressure washer’s size or power is measured in pounds per square inch (PSI). The amount of pressure you need will depend on your project and the material you’re washing, but consumer pressure washers range from 500 to 2,400 PSI. Porous materials like brick and stucco should not be blasted with anything stronger than 1,000 PSI, while you can use a PSI of up to 2,400 to clean a vinyl fence.
