Deck, Fence, Patio or Porch - Clean and SealDeck, Fence, Patio or Porch - Clean and Seal - For Business

"Brandon arrived on time to estimate both jobs.  He painted the bedroom in November 2012 and finished the work over a couple of days (as he stated in the estimate).  The quality of the work was excellent.  He noticed that the window sills needed some work but required an enamel coating to prevent future water damage.  I appreciated his mention of this so that a new painting job would not be required in a couple of years.  I elected to have this work done at a future time.  I had Brandon come back to evaluate a complete refurbishing of a large downstairs family room.  Over time, the drywall had water damage from condenstation on the HVAC ducting.  I wanted the damaged drywall replaced and duct work moisture wrapped before painting.  Brandon brought in a colleague with drywall experience who priced the job separately from the painting.  All of the drywall work was completed satisfactorily and on time.  Bradon made some paint color suggestions that went well with the intended use of the room.  He did an excellent job with the painting, and completed the work on the time schedule he originally told me and for the agreed upon price.  I have another couple of rooms to remodel in the fall of 2013.  I intend to have Brandon do all the painting work.  He has good ideas for selecting colors, is easy to work with, and does high quality painting.

"The whole project was planned, scheduled, and completed very well.

Decks Plus owner, Mr. Sira, kept all appointments during the project.  He converted a rough concept into a detailed plan, described what he would do, and did what he promised.  This was accomplished with a simple contract only.

Sira and his team were unobtrusive in their work habits.  They were neat in the arrangement and storage of building materials and tools and they kept the work area tidy and organized.

Weather intruded only slightly during the work, even though April weather is not exactly predictable.  The project entailed work over several days, encompassing perhaps two weeks from start to finish with weather interruptions.

I rate the price for the job as "good" instead of "excellent" for the simple reason that I had nothing with which to compare.  During my initial consultation with Mr. Sira, I concluded that he was honest, competent, and committed to the quality of his work.  He gave me an estimate, and I accepted it.  I have no regrets about it and an quite pleased with the work and its performance."

"They just did a wonderful job and did it on fairly short notice! I needed my deck painted before the end of the month, which left them 3 weeks in one of their busiest seasons. But they managed to get my project done in less than a week! I am very happy with them and will use them again!"

"I'd highly recommend them. Our roof was put on quickly and they were professional and very reasonable in pricing. We were explained things every step of the way and are very happy with the way it turned out! We've hired them to build a new deck for us next!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.
