"We had a great experience with this tree service company. We first met them when our neighbor’s Maple tree fell, and we were impressed with how hard they worked, responding to the emergency and handling everything professionally. When our large pine tree in the backyard died, we called them to take it down. They did an excellent job from start to finish. You can tell they care about their work. "The crew was on time and did an excellent job. The tree had to be climbed for the limbs to be removed due to the tree's location. They completed the job quickly and cleaned up the debris. We would definitely call them again!!"

"I was contacted the same day as I posted my need, Mr Franklin came by and gave me a reasonable price to do the work and stated he could do it the next day. He picked up the supplies from Lowes where I had ordered them and brought it to my home. His crew did a great job of replacing 5 shrubs and laying new mulch. Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size. 

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

Some trees will bounce back just fine, and others will struggle and possibly die. Evergreens, for instance, have a very difficult time recovering after droughts and usually die after periods of extreme dryness. Usually, you’ll have to just wait and see—if the drought occurs in wintertime, it’s possible that your tree will recover during the gentler springtime.

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

Many species, especially when well-established, are not fans of transplantation. You’ll need to decide if you want to risk splashing the cash, understanding that transplantation isn’t always successful. Again, this is where hiring a pro is helpful, as they can give you all the essential info you need to ensure your tree stands a fighting chance.

While it’s best to have access to large, healthy, strong trees in a safe position, treehouse living is still possible without them. Contractors can fit tree posts to build the structure onto or use posts as additional support alongside the trees themselves. If you’re in doubt about the suitability of the trees on your land, consult with a local treehouse builder before you start the project.
