"Very nice bathtub, deeper than most tubs, water stays warm because bathtub is insulated. Nice looking wall built to frame bathtub. I am very pleased with the salesman, Stryker, and the company definitely aims to please. They did a great job."

"Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value.....We highly recommend L.J. Stone. Our project was to replace our existing tub with a shower. From the first meeting with Connor, who provided the estimate, to Robert who confirmed all measurements and followed up after the install was complete, to Donny Dean and Austin who installed our shower, to the plumber who installed the fixtures, to Mehdi Ayari who came to our home to bring a gift, take pictures and do a final wrap-up, the service we received from L J Stone was EXCELLENT. The shower materials and colors are beautifully made and match our existing decor perfectly. The work was completed in the time we were told it would take to complete. And everyone we worked with was professional, personable and skilled in their trade. We highly recommend L J Stone for any remodeling work you might need. Thank you, L. J. Stone!"

"I had Ken and his crew come out in Dec. 2019 to install a new shower and replace two sink faucets in our primary bathroom. They did a great job. We did need a little warranty work done recently and they sent out a service technician who did what we asked courteously and professionally. I love a company that stands behind their work and Prime Baths in Coal City does just that. Will use them again as needed for sure."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Yes, $5,000 is a healthy budget for a DIY bathroom renovation. It can go a long way in making the space more accessible and stylishly spa-like. Providing you stick to modest materials and don’t make any major plumbing or structural changes, you can upgrade fixtures, retile, and add some stylish bathroom accessories and savvy storage solutions to maximize the space.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.

If your tub is attached to the wall, the best material will be one that can be shaped to fit your space perfectly. A cast-polymer, acrylic, or fiberglass tub will likely be the easiest to install as a built-in because it can be designed to fit your space.

Updating to modern styles and efficient models can enhance bathroom appeal and increase property value.
