"Came 10 minutes early, spoke of the problem, he gave an estimate. He then opened the light switch and confirmed the problem, told me the approximate time and cost to fix it. He did it in about 10 to 15 minutes. He was very friendly and I would hire him again if and when I needed an electrician. Anderson Elect. is the provider for me."

"Jesse was very prompt to contact me after initial inquiry. Excellent work ethic. Noticed another electrical issue in my attic that warranted immediate attention, also. Appreciated being advised and that item was rectified, as well. Very professional and knowledgeable. Would absolutely hire again!"

"Within days of purchasing the deal, I received the instructions and paper to draw my table templates. The table has 2 drop leaves plus 2 additional leaves that can be inserted in the table. The templates were pretty easy to draw. The finished pads were delivered in a very short time. They fit the table and each of the 4 leaves perfectly and magnetically lock together to keep them aligned when on the table. A year and a half later, I still love these pads."

"These guys are not cheap, but they did a great job. All the patching turned out great, they worked quickly and efficiently, and they cleaned up well afterwards. Even where the original color was super dark, none of the old paint shows through anywhere, all the edges are good, they removed what they could to get behind stuff like outlet covers and hanging mirrors. I am very happy with the results. When I saw the original estimate for the whole house, I balked a little at the cost, and they helped me make some choices to save some money by not painting some parts that didn't really need it. At the end, one thing that I had expected to be painted had not been painted. But they had sent me a detailed list of exactly what they were planning to do, and they had done exactly what they said they would - it was my mistake not to notice the discrepancy between what I expected and what they planned to do. Fortunately they were able to squeeze in some time the following week for a couple of guys to come back and finish the last detail that I wanted, even though it was my fault it had been omitted."

"They did a great job! The wall patching where pictures had been was perfect. While painting they discovered that the previous color had been painted past the wall and onto the ceiling. They pointed it out and gave us options to solve it. We decided to have the ceiling painted. The painter quickly switched gears, taped it up, and added it to his day while still meeting our afternoon deadline (we had to leave for another appointment)."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

While most general electricians can repair lamps and light fixtures, it is often better to hire a lamp repair specialist. Many electricians prefer larger jobs, such as fixing electrical systems or relocating fixtures, and may not offer lamp repair services due to the small scale of the work. Additionally, some lamps, particularly antique models, require dedicated expertise that a general electrician might not have. A lamp repair specialist will be familiar with various types of fixtures and can provide a more dedicated service. If you have already hired an electrician for a larger project, you can ask them to look at your lamp, but for a standalone repair, a specialist is typically the best option.

Local building codes typically require conduit around exterior wiring. Conduit protects the wire from moisture, extreme temperatures, sun exposure, and harsh weather conditions to prolong its lifespan. When a wire is worn out, it can be dangerous as the risk of electric shock or fire increases.

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

The cost of lamp repair generally ranges from $30 to $150, with an average cost of around $75. Common repairs like rewiring or replacing a switch typically cost around $60 and $80, respectively. The final price depends on factors such as the type of lamp, the complexity of the issue, and the parts required. Keep in mind that repair costs may be higher for ornate or antique lamps. It's a good practice to ask for a price quote from a professional lamp repair service to determine if the investment is worthwhile.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.
