"Kevin was able to clear a steep slope with about 15 trees worth of branches and conditions too slippery to bring his equipment into close proximity. He and his people cleared the area very well and took the branches to the top of the hill where they were shredded and carried away. Alvey's tree service came through for us."

"Small business but you get the perks of small business compared to a large corporation. Took less crew to do the same job-therefore better pricing, and total upfront honesty and professionalism. Did a very good job. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who needs any tree work done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Removing tree stumps is a dangerous and complex job that requires a high level of expertise. Many landscapers specialize in general lawn care and maintenance. But, some may have the proper licensing and qualifications needed to safely remove tree stumps. In most cases, though, landscapers will refer you to a local tree removal or stump grinding company.

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. Using the stump as the medium for a wood carving or turning it into a planter are just two examples of ways to repurpose a tree stump.

The costs vary from $250 to $5,000 per tree, depending on the size, complexity of the trimming, and labor.

The depth of tree roots depends on the species. Trees like oaks and maples can have root systems that grow down 20 feet or more. However, trees that grow in shallow soils will have roots that go only a few feet down. Research how your tree species grows in your climate area to estimate root depth.

Though summer is not ideal, you can do some light pruning during this time of year. Just make sure it’s not excessive. Vigorous pruning will stress the tree and impact next year’s growth. Generally, August to September are the best summer-pruning months, particularly for fruit trees.
