"I had 2 big white oaks and good size dead poplar tree removed a few weeks back. All were within 30 feet of my house and neighbors building. The poplar was maybe 20 foot or so from my kitchen and it was dead and leaning at my house, I swear it was one good storm from dropping through my roof. The guys from Precision Tree Care dropped all of them down to the ground without incident and did so faster than we expected them to be able to. Afterwards they cleaned things here up nice and left no trace of those trees but the stumps. The guys were courteous and fast at what they did. They showed up on time and had the entire job done before the deadline they set. This will be where my family looks to go for any tree issues in the future. Thankyou for helping us to not have to worry everytime the wind blows!"

"I have used Jared and his Sunset Mountain Tree Service for around 10 years. They have not only trimmed my trees and bushes he has picked up and spread mulch and landscape gravel. They have also planted a row of shrubs and miscellaneous jobs on our property. I have known him and used him long enough to call him my friend!!!!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

If you don’t stake a tree that needs support, it could be at greater risk of being damaged or failing completely, whether it uproots or falls over. That could cause damage to your property or other surrounding trees. If you want to grow healthy trees, you may need to stake them for best results.

Unless it’s dead or dangerous, think twice about cutting down a tree in your yard. They’re good for health, well-being, wildlife, and the environment. Plus, local authorities often have regulations prohibiting the removal of trees, especially protected species or individual trees with historical value.
