"Project went very well.  Shed doctor tore down our old shed and put up the new one and hauled old shed away in a matter of 6 hours.  New shed looks great.  They were punctual and worked diligently.  We are very happy with the result.  Work does not include painting the shed, it has base coating on it.  We would hire Shed doctor again any time.

"Good people and great work with the re-mulching of our property. Very conscientious. They trenched around the entire house, used quality mulch, and made the home look better than the work done three years ago where we had paid nearly twice the price to another company."

"When I saw this special on Angie's List, I though that it would be to good to be true, but I was hopeful.  I have just purchased my first home and I have lots of things on my honey-do list.  One of the first projects being, patch the random holes and dings in the drywall of the garage. There were also two spots where the previous owners stepped off of a beam in the attic, and pushed the drywall down so that a corner hung from the ceiling.
I called to schedule and initially we played a bit of phone tag, but there was always a quick response.  When we finally connected, he asked for a description of the job, and where I was located. He asked if it was okay if he stopped by in about 40 minutes as he had some time and could stop by to give me an estimate.
He was prompt and extremely polite. As he took a look around, he asked if I had any immediate plans, as he could just complete the work right then.  I was shocked and overjoyed! He was extremely neat in all of his work.  I had no pregnant bumps in the walls, and no mess to clean after.
Although he laughed at my continued concerns of the mouseketeer brigade, he made a special effort to double check the lower laying areas to make sure there were no additional spots in need of repair.
I honestly could not have asked for better service.  I have some other projects that I will be sure to keep him at the top of the list for. I have since recommended Jersey Construction to several other people that were looking to have some repair work done.

"The quality of the work was well done.  Greg and Adam are very responsive.  Adam does excellent work, and very fast once he had all the cabinets, etc.  The thing folks need to know is that it takes a very long time to get cabinets custom ordered and to get granite selected and cut.  Make sure you build this in.  Overall I think this project took too long to complete (over two months), but the overall final product was really great.

"We just purchased our first home, which we love for its historic character. So much of the original house was still in place when we moved in, including the windows. And while we loved them for their historic charm, they were in pretty terrible shape. We chose Legacy and they did a superb job installing the perfect windows that blended perfectly with the rest of our home. We would not have gone a different way with that selection."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Hiring a reliable home builder is an essential task, but there are a few questions you can ask a potential builder to ensure you they are trustworthy and up to the task:

  • How long do you expect the process to take?

  • Are you fully licensed and insured?

  • How much of the work will you subcontract?

  • Will you pull all of the necessary permits for the job?

  • How long is the builder’s warranty you include with your work?

  • How do you handle resolution for issues I might have with the finished product?

  • How much experience do you have?

There are energy-efficient options when building a cottage. Select green building materials, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient windows when designing your cottage. Options such as solar panels, efficient HVAC systems, and LED lighting can lower your utility bills and reduce your environmental impact. Many builders offer energy-efficient upgrades as part of the design process.

A construction-to-permanent loan is the most common type of mortgage used to finance a house teardown and rebuild. These loans include financing for construction costs and convert to a long-term mortgage once construction is complete. Check the terms of the loan closely before beginning work—there are often restrictions requiring you to use licensed contractors for all work.

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.
