"I am coming here to say that a series of unfortunate events happened to me and my husband. Do not for any reason build your home with Expert Builders LLC. Also known as Joe Troyer. We had the worst experience when building with them. This builder is a liar and one of the most disrespectful Builders to work with. We spent so much time saving and putting down $40,000 for this home. We signed a contract for a certain amount and we were aware that because of our septic cost, we were going to have to cut on a few things in the home. Which it only ended up being our insulation and drywall in our garage which he told us, that ended up being a lie. We signed the contract with then having those things removed. Fast-forward, I had asked my builder if there was any reason I could buy certain things for the home and just get reimbursed for those things and he said yes because the budget was bigger than what I needed for me to find those items and I’d rather use some money towards other things. later on we find out, he never included our countertops and told us that we had to pay for them out-of-pocket in that cost was on us($4,700), even though we were on agreement that this was a move-in ready home. We then later on started having issue after issue with our flooring in which he continued to do a bad job and put wood filler on every broken piece or in between the flooring that had gaps. We also had an issue with our gas and electric line being in the same line and we told him that we did not like that because we felt that it was unsafe with also having three children in the home. I had texted him over a total of 10 times through three months and he still had yet to come out so we ended up having to do electrical through our roof and had to change up our home because he never came out and fixed the job when he should have. While this was going on, we still had multiple issues with the flooring and to this day we still have flooring issues, pieces are chipped, and he put in transition pieces in random places, which some pieces he even stuck on with gorilla glue. He ended up asking if we could move dirt for him and he would pay us so we could put in our driveway that weekend because he really wanted us to have it done in which we had to spend $500 to rent machinery so we could get it done that weekend for him . Later on someone in his crew ended up, hitting our mailbox and smashing both sides of our culvert pipe and told us that it wasn’t his problem. He installed my hood range incorrectly, and I sent him proof and he still decided to tell me that that wasn’t his problem and I had to deal with it. Noy only that did the crappiest job installing it and our roof looks like crap. He left a gap between our siding and roof, then sat there and told me that it’s a good thing rain doesn’t go upwards. He also ended up putting a textured ceiling which I had told him that we did not ask for a textured ceiling we asked for a smooth ceiling in which he did not believe me and asked me for proof Which I provided and proved him wrong. At one point before we moved into our home a piece of our brick siding came off and I mentioned it to him. I told him I thought it was unfair that we had crappy flooring and now our siding is falling off before we have even moved into the home in which he decided to reply with a very crappy email mentioning to me that he would also be charging me an extra $11,500 because I am an ungrateful client. (Hes literally crazy)This man has been one of the worst people to work with. Almost every corner of our home has cracked drywall and around every window. None of our trim was finished or sealed. We have one of the most half assed homes, and all he did was offer $2000. My husband also works at our roofing siding company, which saved us a huge amount of money and we were supposed to be reimbursed that but when it came on time for us to be reimbursed, he decided that he actually wasn’t going to reimburse us for everything and he could only give us a certain amount. He kept every dollar that was supposed to be returned to us and kept it for himself. I will be reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and I just really hope that this never happens to anyone else. This man still should owe us money from moving the dirt, saving money on items and for our mailbox and culvert pipe, he smashed and broke. we also never had our chicken foot design put onto the side of our home, this man has taken so many things from our home throughout the process and would get upset at me for asking him why they weren’t put into the home. He also ended up lying to us about having an inspection done, which me and my husband ended deciding to pay to get one ourselves and found out many things in the home weren’t even up to code. And if you’re asking, why aren’t you taking him to court?, We were going to, we have proof of everything but our lawyer gave us an estimate of around two years in court, in which we have three kids, and we can no longer wait for our home and be living with other people. He has no idea what he is doing and I wouldn’t trust this man to build a shed."

Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Removing the original paint or stain before refinishing is a good idea, as it ensures the new finish bonds strongly to the wood. If you skip the stripping or sanding step, the new finish may peel or flake away from the railing easily. Using a wood stripper will completely remove the old stain or paint while sanding will help to prime the surface.

Since there are many methods of repairing your cabinets, including refacing and refinishing, it can be tricky to know when to replace or fix your existing cabinets. Generally, it’s best to repair your existing cabinets when the cabinet boxes are in good condition. Additionally, this option is best when you’re being budget-friendly or remodeling.

Replacing your cabinets is best when you’re changing the layout of the room or when the cabinet boxes are in rough shape. It’s also best to replace your cabinets if you need more storage space, as this will remove the existing cabinets for new ones.

Refinishing cabinets preserves the framework, updates appearances cost-effectively, reduces material wastage, and allows color and style customization.

If you prefer not to sand your particle board cabinets prior to painting, you can use mineral spirits and a rough sponge to add some grit to your medium-density fiberboard cabinets so that the paint will still stick. Keep in mind that using 120-grit sandpaper is still the preferred method for preparing your particle board cabinets for a new coat of paint.

It’s important to sand your cabinets before you paint them so that your paint job will hold. However, in some cases, you might be able to skip the sanding. For example, you could use certain types of paint, like mineral or chalk paint, that don’t require heavy sanding. You might also be able to use a high quality bonding primer or a liquid deglosser which allows the paint to stick without sanding.
