"From the first meeting to assess the work to be done to the end of the project, Brian was very professional and very meticulous. Various types of natural mulch and landscaping rocks were to be placed around the house, which meant clearing out existing flower beds, debris, weeds, etc. around the home. He had a crew with him that were very polite and did a great job. I had a minor follow-up concern and Brian immediately came out and made sure everything was exactly to my liking. I have worked with several contractors over the past few years for various home projects. Brian, by far, has been the most reliable, efficient and professional contractor I've hired, and by far gave me the best end product. 100% recommend!"

"Colin and his crew did an amazing job in helping us redesign our front yard after a major sewer replacement turned it into a big dirt pit. From the beginning stages Colin made helpful suggestions to put together a design that we loved. Both Colin and the office manager Monica were responsive to any questions that came up along the way. Friendly crew that worked very hard and did an impeccable clean-up job each day. It looks like a brand new house from the outside and we couldn't be happier! Definitely would recommend and will be hiring again as other landscaping needs come up."

"Richard Smith, the owner, is a fantastic guy. He provided us with lots of good advice for lawn care. A total of three people worked on cleaning up my yard, including removing weeds and trimming bushes. They did a great job. My yard is looking very good now. Thanks to AAA Indy Landscaping."

"What a refreshing change to find a company that does what it says! We phoned Justin for an estimate. He not only came out right away to give us the estimate but he then followed up. Within 24 hrs our .75 acre lawn was mowed & trimmed; also sidewalks, street, driveway & porch were cleaned too. In addition he offered to weed our flower beds (additional fee) regularly which has never been offered or done by any lawn service we've had over the past 20 yrs. Our lawn has never looked as good as it does right now."

"I recently contacted several area landscapers for estimates on a residential lawn project. Ranger Landscaping was by far the most responsive and professional of the whole lot. Eric was prompt and friendly, and I very much appreciated his attention to detail throughout the whole bidding process. I would absolutely recommend him to others looking to tackle their landscaping job."

"Indy Work Landscaping responded to our request for a quote with a phone call within minutes of entering the request on Angi and made an appointment within two days. They were prompt, professional, reliable, and reasonably priced. They performed a much-needed spring clean up of our neglected yard, removed ivy from our house, laid fresh mulch, trimmed bushes, removed a deck, graded and laid a new pea gravel patio trimmed with brick, built steps with a hand rail to the back door, and planted shrubs. They were hard-working, quiet, clean, and flexible. We could not be happier and look forward to working with them in future."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best landscape edging tool depends on you and your needs. For homeowners who are looking for a budget-friendly edging material, plastic might be the best option for them. However, homeowners who want a low-maintenance option might opt for concrete or brick. Since there are loads of gardening edging ideas, decide what factors (maintenance, style, or budget) are most important to you to help you narrow your choices.

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.
