"I would recommend this business to anyone that needs HVAC service. The experience and service provided by Roy Rogers was great. The technician arrived on time. He was both thorough and informative during and after the service. I didn’t feel pressured to make any purchases. He simply presented the facts/solutions to allow me to make an informed decision."

"Our business needed three roof units replaced. Not only did they come out quick to get us quote, but they had it all installed very quickly! We really appreciate everyone at Star. They also updated all our thermostats throughout the building. They are the only people I would call if I needed, service, repairs or installation."

"If you're looking for friendly and exceptional service for your Heating and Cooling needs, I highly recommend Armor Air! Ever since we moved into our home several years ago, we dreaded the winter dryness (our home routinely would be anywhere from 25-29% humidity in the winter, and sometimes even lower. We were constantly sick, waking up with a sore throat, and frequent nose bleeds. I saw a video on Instagram of the Armor Air team and they looked like a bunch of really nice people, so I investigated and saw how many people had great things to say about the company. We had them come out and give us a quote on a whole home humidification system, and Robert was very friendly, professional and worked with us to get a system setup for our home. A few days later, Kameron came out and installed the system and he did an awesome job! The last time we had another HVAC company come out and do work on our system, they left a giant mess, but not Kameron. You couldn't even tell he was there! Now,"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

You can buy a new AC capacitor through most big-box home improvement stores, from an HVAC contractor, or from the manufacturer. Use the model number of your air conditioning unit to make sure you purchase the right part for your unit. Also, keep in mind that the cost of this type of part can vary significantly depending on who you purchase it from, so shop around to get the best price.

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.

No, it's not safe to keep using your unit when it's frozen. Not only can running a frozen unit lead to damage, but it can also potentially overheat, making it a fire hazard. Therefore, it's always best to turn off the AC unit as soon as you notice any ice.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.
