Jack Todd Paving did an extremely thorough and complete job re-contouring our entire driveway to take care of multiple problems, including the car scraping when coming in, flooding for both us and our neighbor, a difficult turn-around and most importantly - our challenging drainage. Jack’s innovative design for the drainage gained the critical 2” of fall needed for the driveway to drain completely. He completely dug out the old uneven foundation, compressed the sub-soil, put in several inches of new gravel and sand, compressed and contorted them, and then put down 2 inches of large stone road asphalt and an additional inch of finish asphalt. Jack supervised the entire project from start to finish, operating much of the equipment himself. He and his entire crew were a pleasure to work with. Although some companies were far less expensive, their plans did not meet industry guidelines for this type of work and their drainage plans were woefully inadequate. But when you take into account that the cheapest guys were only planning on using about 1/3 of the material that Jack used and estimated that they could get the job done in a day while Jack’s crew took more than 3 days of solid work, I feel strongly that Jack Todd’s price was fair and that the quality of his work speaks for itself. I watched his work from start to finish and was impressed by the effort and conscientious attention to detail he and his men had. He and his crew even cleaned up the street so it is far cleaner than when they started. He and his crew have earned my highest regard and I can recommend him without hesitation. Background and important details: We were so afraid of adding to any of our neighbors’ flooding problems that we lived with a pond for a driveway and a swamp for a backyard for over 15 years. We spent a lot of time making calls, making notes and asking for estimates from every contractor who would come out, regardless of how far away they were. We called companies that paved, excavated and most especially, those that specialized in drainage. Our neighbor’s garage is lower than our garage although it is situated higher on the driveway. So it is impossible to fill the driveway without flooding his garage. There was nowhere to drain, since our backyard was higher than the end of the driveway and the city storm drain was higher than the bottom of our driveway. The result was that our driveway became a large pond after serious rains. Compounding the problem was the lack of drop between the neighbor’s garage and the bottom of the driveway, making filling the pond impossible. Our driveway was declared to be unsolvable by the most often reviewed firm on Angie’s List (Dave Decker, owner of Bloomington Sealcoat). He said he would not do the drainage and if he did the paving, there would be puddles or a big puddle. He wanted to put in the driveway before the drainage was done. Every other contractor said that would be just one rain away from flooding our neighbor’s garage. After I told Dave that Jack Todd said it could be done, his response was that “Jack enjoys these types of impossible jobs and if he wants to waste his time on this nightmare he should do it.” Dave’s negative assessments of the scope of our problem was just one of several we received. After an exhaustive search, we were able to confirm what Dave had indicated: Jack Todd was perhaps the only company that had a reputation for expertise in both paving a minimal fall driveway as well as the expertise to drain it properly. From the outcome we now have, that reputation is well justified. We can recommend his work without reservation

I liked him because I liked his plan of what to do about our side walk. I liked what he wanted to do and his price.

They came promptly and they had all the equipment they needed. They did the work as we asked. The owner brought a crew of 3 people and he was very concerned that they got it just right. He definitely was over the top in terms of what he was doing. If somebody else on the crew forgot something, he did it. He consulted with us a lot. He laid it all out to begin with and then he kept consulting with us to see if it was right. One guy was complaining that he didn't like doing the transplanting work, which was kind of annoying, which was why the owner got involved. He acted like he was superior to the owner

The estmate was performed in a timely manner and came in midway between two other contractors. The crew doing the work were professional and courteous and got the job done in a timely manner. Finished product looks great! I will be having them back out next spring to pour concrete as well.

Kyle and his crew did excellent work. It was all done as proposed, with even a little extra thrown in, for the price estimated. Great communication and good work all around. I'll definitely be calling them again as more jobs come up.

Cannot say enough good things about this company. Hired them to do some work in our back yard and ran into some drainage issues. Not only did they take the time to fix the problem, but came out - on their own time - during a rain storm to make sure everything was fixed properly. We would not consider using any other landscape company to perform work for us in the future

At first I used the phone book to get my project completed. I could not even get an estimate let alone the work completed. So I went to Angie's List. I contacted 2 contractors and chose Sturgeon Stone & Landscape. They came by as promised to look over my project. They gave me a competitive bid for the work and completed the project as promised. They provided insurance info up front. They did not ask me to sign a contract or for money up front. Mike Sturgeon and his team were courteous throughout the project

It was an excellent experience. From my first contact with Andy to set up a quote, everything happened quickly and professionally. He came out, was very easy to talk to, took measurements, and I had a quote in just a few days. Once I decided to use Clark's based on my comfort level and the price, they were out and working about a week later. The crew that came out was fast, efficient, and very courteous. I asked for a few minor adjustments along the way -- nothing was wrong, more of a "hey, now that I'm thinking about it..." kind of thing -- and they were happy to make the changes. They were done quickly and the finished work looks great. I'm thrilled with how everything turned out

They looked at the area and there are a lot of hills here. My 30 year old retaining walls were falling down. They were old and had deteriorated. We talked about different options and I chose the middle option which was treated lumber for walls that were 6 by 6. So they created the design. I told them where I wanted it and how far I wanted to do and they did that. It also included the steps. I also needed some stairs replaced because it's a hill and what I had had deteriorated. It was a pretty big project. I also had an area within my yard where I wanted to build up a garden. I started it myself, but they recreated that. They finished it with Brown County stone. It was a big area. I would tell others to go with them. They have a really good reputation. They are very responsive to any concerns or requests that you have. Their price is right. The work that they do for the most part is excellent
