"Dennis and his son Nathan were great! Expert service, did what was promised, and more! The quote was lower than other company quotes, and that included a higher R rating. Definitely got more for our money...at a lower price, and appreciate the opportunity to provide business to a local small business. Due to our tight schedule and urgent need as our attic was exposed over the garage, D&N even squeezed us in after hours because the cold weather was settling in. We not only recommend this company, we will call them in the future for further insulation needs. Grateful for their service and the recommendation from Angie's List."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You should not put fiberglass insulation in basements, since fiberglass is known to trap mold and mold is more commonly grown and produced in basements. You should also avoid placing insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or other hot appliances. For more information about the best and worst places to install insulation, consider hiring an insulation professional.

Once installed, injection insulation requires little maintenance, but periodic inspections for air leaks or moisture buildup are recommended.

Open-cell foam insulation has a life span ranging between 15 to 25 years when well cared for. However, the material may degrade sooner in areas with high humidity or after prolonged water exposure. Proper installation and maintenance can maximize its longevity but requires close monitoring. Closed-cell foam insulation has a longer life span of 30 to 50 years.

It is usually possible to install insulation yourself, but it’s often better to hire an insulation professional. An experienced insulation pro can determine which type of insulation is best for your space and the R-value get the most value and comfort in your home. Certain types of insulation can cause skin, eye, and lung irritation, and a professional will have the equipment necessary to keep themselves safe and limit the effect on your indoor air quality after the installation. Certain types of insulation—like blown-in and loose-fill insulation—demand a professional for proper functionality and safe installation.

Air sealing isn't necessary for attic insulation, but it's incredibly helpful since it can help you identify and patch any existing air leaks. Failing to find these leaks before adding insulation can render your insulation less effective, leading to higher energy bills and potentially costly repairs down the line.
