Small jobs welcome

"Kevin and his crew did a great job. I was very happy with how the finish product turned out. The job involved a lot of dirt removal that would’ve taken me all summer to remove, they were done in a day. I’m a very happy customer and will definitely recommend them and ask for their services again in the future."

Customers say: Quick response

"We had a retaining wall built out of timbers put up around our patio and deck. They did a great job and we are very pleased with the end result. They also were able to start and complete the job in a reasonable amount of time. Everyone from the owner Brian to the workers were very nice and listened to what we wanted!"

"We got a great price on having 7 trees removed and the stumps ground. However, we were left with mounds of debris from the ground stumps. That's when we found out that they intended to make their profit on hauling it away. I submitted my request to Angi and got a response from Lori within an hour. She arranged for Juan to come by at 5:00pm. He took a look at what we needed done and gave us a price. We agreed to have the work done the next day, weather permitting. The crew arrived the next day and went right to work. It took less than an hour to get it all done. Expectations Exceeded."

"I inherited a house from my godmother that was essentially a hoarding situation and we live out of town. I interviewed several companies to manage donations and clean out, ideally performed during the week we would be there. When I met Ralph I got a great vibe and was excited when he said they could begin work the next week and complete the large project the same week. His price was lower and project could be completed quicker than other companies, which was super important given the circumstances. Ralph and his team were friendly, professional and great communicators. They made sure donations went to organizations in line with our values. Importantly they also brought me every potentially valuable piece of jewelry, paperwork, and photos to review before making a decision of what to do. So we felt we could trust them, which was critically important in this situation! I could not recommend Ralph and his team at a Clean Start more highly!!"

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a chance that any paint on your hardwood floors could be lead paint—especially if it was already there when you moved in. Because lead is toxic, hiring a licensed pro to remove it is mandatory. The average price for professional lead paint removal ranges from $1,500 to $5,300 and depends on the scope of the project.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.

Some companies offer hazardous waste removal, but additional fees and special handling procedures may be required.

Lead toxicity comes from inhaling lead or consuming it. Before the 1980s, when the government banned lead from consumer use, it could be found in paint, plumbing, pipes, ceramics, and even gasoline. Lead paint is toxic for the same reason lead itself is toxic, which is why lead poisoning from paint presents the same as lead poisoning from water or food sources, with a slight increase in respiratory symptoms vs. digestive symptoms. Lead paint is most dangerous when it’s old and peeling, cracking, or otherwise disturbed. This increases the concentration in the air and, therefore, in breathable air.
