"They sent a very kind gentleman out to our home for an FREE estimate, and we were just blown away at the knowledge and amazing customer service we received! Top notch, they went over all their discounts, how the awning would work and look on our home. Even showed us a virtual picture of the awning on our house!!! We were given an install date the same day of our appointment with even better turn around times!! Overall a great experience, everyone must get a Marygrove Awning!!"

"Although the cost of the house we're building went a bit over budget, James (Jimmy) Murphy worked closely with us to design and build a beautiful sunroom that we could fit into our already stretched budget.  None of the other companies we contacted were as considerate, accommodating or flexible as Murphy's.  Jimmy really did go the extra mile for us and we won't  ever forget that.
His employees and sub-contractors do very good work.   We love, love, love our sunroom!  The exterior blends in beautifully with the rest of our house and the room itself matches so perfectly it looks like it's an extension of our family room.  We can't wait until our house is complete so we can move in and starting using the room!
After we move in we'll be back in touch with Murphy's to see about some type of awning or covering for our back patio area.

"I worked with Jack Weber. He was very courteous and always responsive to my calls. He was very patient, and answered all of my questions. If you use them, ask for Jack. I gave Jack my down payment on a Wednesday (5/28), and asked when I could expect that the roofing be started. He stated "by Wednesday or Thursday of next week." I told Jack that I would like someone to call me the day before, so that I could be home. I also asked that Jack write on the contract that I wanted the front awning removed before they installed the front fascia, and that I would tell them whether or not to re-install it after I saw the finished product. When I hadn't heard from anyone at Nombach by the following Wednesday afternoon (6/4) I called Jack. He told me that they'd decided not to start because rain had been predicted. He told me that they would begin working the following Monday (6/10). I told Jack that I wasn't happy with that. I was not able to take off from work on Monday, and I'd be leaving town on Tuesday, so I wouldn't be able to see the work done. He said he'd see what he could do. He called me back later to say that they could start roofing on Friday (6/6) instead. When I arrived home from work on Friday (6/6) I noticed that no work had been done. I checked my answering machine, and there was a message from the contractor(?) informing me that they would begin work on Monday (6/10). However, on Sunday (6/9) I did not receive an advance call, AND there was rain predicted for Monday, so I assumed no work would be done since work had been canceled in the past due to rain predictions. I arrived home from work on Monday evening (6/10) to find that the roofing was done, the gutters, downspouts, soffit, and fascia had been installed, and a Nombach sign placed in the front yard (that I did not agree to). The only thing left to do was to install the siding on the dormers. Also, the awning had not been removed as I requested. They cut and formed the fascia covering around it. The next morning while getting prepared to leave town, I heard a ladder raise and then land against the side of my house. Soon after that I hear hammering, and then another ladder on the other side of the house. I step out to see that workers from Nombach had arrived and began working. No phone call, not even a courtesy ringing of the doorbell to ensure that it was okay that they begin, and that they weren't disturbing anyone. When I asked one of the workers about why the awning hadn't been removed he didn t give me an explanation. Instead he stated that he could remove it, but sometimes they fall apart when they do that. I was upset by the answer but didn't have time to discuss it, as I had a plane to catch. I didn't see the final product until 4 days later when I returned home. I am very happy to have a new roof. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism tainted what started off as a wonderful process."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

It depends on how you’ll use it. Both awnings and pergolas create shelter in outdoor areas, but pergolas have grid-style roofs, which are more open than awnings and not as effective at blocking out UV rays and precipitation. Also, pergolas are permanent structures, so you can’t put them away when you aren’t using them (unlike retractable awnings).

If you're handy, it might be worth trying to install retractable awnings yourself. Just keep in mind that motorized retractable awnings require much more know-how, and the risk of something costly going wrong (such as damaging your new awnings) is higher.

Mechanical awnings should be easy to install for the average person with some handyman skills.

Yes, awnings can add value to a home, primarily by boosting its curb appeal and providing more usable outdoor space. While the exact monetary return on investment depends on the awning's size, style, and quality, they offer an excellent appeal factor to potential buyers. For example, an awning with a trendy metal roof can be particularly attractive. Even if the direct increase in resale value is modest, a well-chosen awning enhances the home's functionality and aesthetic.

Yes, you can install an awning yourself, and it can be an excellent DIY project with immediate benefits. This is most feasible for smaller, pre-assembled units. However, awnings are often heavy and awkward for one person to handle, so you should always have at least one helper. If you have difficulty lifting heavy objects, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper mounting and durability.

Stainless steel and copper are the most durable and will probably last the longest, especially when you compare them to fabric awnings. Steel is the most popular if your budget isn’t a top priority, but some people prefer copper awnings over steel because they are lighter, which makes them easier to install. Aluminum offers a more budget-friendly metal awning option that is still attractive and offers some durability, especially compared to fabric.
