DESIGNfirst Builders LLCDESIGNfirst did a great job designing a new open concept kitchen and dining room along with a bathroom remodel. Our outdated kitchen and dining room were due for an overhaul. The design process was very professional and they were able to make revisions to meet our price range. The lead designer, Danielle came up with the innovative idea to We closed on financing and everything went into lock down literally the next day in March 2020. DESIGNfirst was able to guide us through material selection via videoconference and was very flexible in sending multiple samples to our door due to the pandemic. Demo started May 10 2020 and the work was completed late July on time and within budget. Could not be happier with the project manager Gary and the construction crew that made it happen each week. They were very attentive and professional following up on minor details and able to work around some minor kitchen faucet and tub shipment delays due to the pandemic. The remodel looks great and we look forward to enjoying the kitchen and dining room for years to come. Thank You DESIGNfirst!- Jim O.

Triangle Classic Homes IncCarl and Ralph helped us design our dream home in Chatham County. They were professional and showed a lot of patience given all the hassles with Covid, cold feet and our loan process. Our new home is more beautiful than we ever dreamed and the craftsmanship and quality have exceeded our expectations. Carl and Ralph are super nice guys and they take pride in their work and care about their customers. The people they hire are all professional and very kind. My husband and I highly recommend them for any job, large or small.- S P.

E & B Masonry & Porch Construction, Inc.Mike, Eddie, and their team were great. From the beginning communication was easy and Mike was easy to get ahold of when we had questions regarding materials and details in the estimate he sent us. We actually had them quote us a few years back, but had to hold off on the work due to multiple home repairs. They gave us a new estimate, for a small increase, which I really respected given the 4 years that had passed and the amount of work they had on their schedule. We had a couple of other companies come out and quote us and E & B gave us a middle ground price, but with plenty of detail to back it up. We ended up deciding to do composite deck floorboards with a wood railing. After they began demo my husband realized that even though we had planned to hold off on having our back sidewalk re-poured to slope away from the house it wouldn't be possible since two of the staircase footers would have to sit on top of it. We asked if they could add give us an estimate on one sidewalk from the back of the house to the alley. After some back and forth on the height and slope of the sidewalk, they got started on that the next day. We also decided that we might as well replace our sliding door that has been giving us issues and Eddie ordered that immediately for us. Everyone was respectful about our space, worked hard, and whenever we had questions they stopped work until we had it resolved. They cleaned up after themselves and made sure to come back to finish up a few minor details. They also came back two weeks later when the sliding door wouldn't lock. They didn't leave us hanging after the majority/all of the job was done, which had happened to us once before. I trust them enough to work with them again when we're ready to tackle the next thing on our bungalow fix-it list.- Nichole S.

V P CONSTRUCTIONOur family is 100% satisfied with the services we received from VP Construction. They did a complete renovation of our existing home and added an addition. The owner assisted us through the entire process beginning with financing, design, engineering, and construction. He was attentive to our needs throughout the entire process and was very patient with all of our questions. There was never a change order and they completed the project 30 days early. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. I would gladly offer all future clients the opportunity to witness the exceptional results with a private tour of my house.- Laura H.

Advance Remodeling CorpWe hired Stan to remove a dated stone fireplace and replace it with built-in bookshelves and a more modern fireplace surround. Stan was incredibly patient, responsive and knowledgeable during the entire process. He had great suggestions that we hadn’t even thought of and the project turned out beautifully. It is exactly what we wanted. He always made sure to clean up at the end of the day and we will definitely be hiring him again to complete future projects in our home. Highly recommend!- Leah H.

Your Choice Construction, LLCJeff remodeled our kitchen this past October and we are very pleased! First of all, he was very helpful in recommending cabinet, countertop, tile and flooring showrooms. Shopping for all of that can truly be a daunting task. Then the work he did was amazing! He thinks of everything and comes up with a solution that works when needed. The tech that installed our new dishwasher complimented the plumbing work he did. Also the tech who installed the microwave said our contractor did a really great job installing the cabinets. So not only does it look great to us, but it’s done right to where two separate techs on two separate occasions made mention of the great work he did. I love my new kitchen! I would hire Jeff again if I ever need a contractor for anything. It’s great to know a contractor who takes pride in his work!- Barb D.

Biango ConstructionI can't be more happy with how our room addition project went. There isn't a time I can think of where I had to point out any flaws in the craftsmanship that Nick and his team at Biango Construction performed. Throughout the process there was a clear and open line of communication and dialog for recommendations and answers to all my inquires as we moved along the path of progress and completion. I would HIGHLY recommend Biango Construction. I've already begun the process for another project my wife and I had in mind.- Jeff M.

A mixed review—great final product, terrible process. We were incredibly upfront about our budget and our priorities. We explained that the contract absolutely needed to come in below $40,000—knowing that there would be change orders and unexpected costs along the way that would likely increase that number. After some back and forth, Matt came back with some options—it came in at $47,000 but then he broke out a few "extras,", we could get it under $40,000. These “extras” were not important to us, so we were thrilled! I was out of the country at the time, but Matt told my wife that we needed to sign before a certain date (and put down a deposit) to “lock in the price” and that when I came back, if there were issues with the design we could revisit that with no penalty—which ended up not being true at all. A few problems occurred almost immediately. As we looked at the floor plans they had drawn up, we couldn’t quite understand how they fit this extra bathroom into our space.- Turns out, they didn’t measure correctly and added two feet of floor space to our upstairs. So we just asked for our money back. We circled back to our conversations with Matt about the fact that we could get a refund if the plans didn’t work out. He says that is not an option. The director of sales, Kevin, calls us and we explain. He defends Matt, tells us we want “luxury items” and that is not realistic for our price, We explain we want our money back—he says that is not an option. So we start over, use the 4th bedroom like originally planned, tell him the priorities that we told Matt, and we go back to the architects. Kevin says, “We can definitely do this for under $40,000.” So we keep walking down the road, similar things happen, but not to the same extent. Our numbers starts creeping again. We show the architect the e-mail I had from Kevin saying we can do this for under $40,000 and just like that, they take off $7,000 instantly. Why couldn’t have we done that before? We finally got to a place with a good plan and we were happy with the scope of work they were going to do, so we started. Our project manger really struggled. I would say 75% of the time she was on site it was to collect a check. Lastly, we have the change orders. We get that there are unforeseen costs go into construction. The problem is, some of the change orders were for things that were out in the open. On a load bearing wall, the change order came 2 weeks after the work was done (most of the change orders came after the work was already done— which was entirely different than the process they laid out at the beginning) and was pretty high. $1,700 to put in a small header. They told me that if I didn’t pay for these change orders, that the contractors were not going to get paid. He literally said, “You are taking money out of Oliver’s pocket if you don’t approve this change order…” I could go on but at the end of the day, we love our master bath/closet. We REALLY enjoyed working with Rod—our architect. But overall--rough, rough process. Update: After my review, I received a call from the owner, Dan. We spoke at length about the project and he was very apologetic. He learned some things about our project that he previously did not know and I was able to expand on our experience to help him better understand some of the challenges. He was grateful for the feedback and assured me that the entire team is doing a debrief of our project to prevent some of these mistakes from happening again. Specifically, he mentioned that the "change order" process will be tightened up to avoid confusion for the home owner. I really enjoyed my conversation with Dan and it meant a lot to me that he reached out. If Design First indeed addresses some of these issues, I would have no problem recommending them or using them for a future project.

The folks at Greenlight Construction Group have mastered the art of customer service in an industry plagued by complaints. We had an old shake roof and gutters which needed to be replaced. The president, Joe, was on time for his appointment to discuss solutions and give us a cost estimate. He spent a lot of his time letting us know that this is a large construction job which was really messy and gave us advice on preservation of landscaping. The presentation was very low key and after talking about a number of options, he gave us several cost estimates and said to contact him with any follow up questions. On the way out he gave us some samples of shingles with available colors. No pressure whatsoever! We awarded Greenlight the job and that is when the outstanding service became obvious. At no time during the project were we in the dark about status. Tom, our project coordinator, was routinely on the phone or texting us with details of delivery and crew scheduling. Our home is a ranch, so the roof is larger than most, yet they matched the job size with the necessary crew and were done in 2 days. The guys on the job were about as careful as you can be given it was a demolition zone. The final product is outstanding and we highly recommend this company to anyone looking for professionalism and outstanding service.

We needed to add a mother-in-law suite to our house, and we spoke with a number of contractors, but MG was the only one who was able to identify all of the challenges we might face in the project, helping us to be prepared and avoiding surprises. Miro and his team were always responsive, no matter what time of day, and the workmanship is impeccable. On top of that, we had decided (both for cost reasons and because we like doing it) that we were going to do some of the work on our own. Miro and his crew provided us with guidance and assistance, and they were extremely patient with us when lack of experience or busy lives caused delays. When we had bitten off more than we could chew, they pointed us to people who could help. I would be happy to work with MG again, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to complete a construction product, from simple to complex. It's truly a family business, and that comes through in the pride they take in their work.

Had our kitchen remodeled in 2014 and we were very pleased when it was completed. It exceeded our expectations. This was actually our second project with Reliable. They finished our basement back in 1996, which also exceeded our expectations and has been lived in regularly. Anyways, recently noticed some spots on our Cherry wood cabinets (Kitchen) and we were unable to remove them. I contacted Beth from Reliable to find out the Cabinet maker, Beth volunteered to make all the arrangements for a Service call for our cabinets. Upon completion of the Service call, all the spots were fixed as well as a cabinet hinge that happened to break the day before the Service call. All was completed at no-charge to us. We have always been Very Pleased working with the staff from Reliable, starting from Tony all the way through his entire organization.
