"Outstanding service. Emailed to request a quote on Sunday night and we had an estimate by Monday and as soon as we approved the estimate, they started on removing the trees. My wife and I had also done some clean-up of smaller trees and yard debris on our own and Flynn's disposed of it for us for no additional charge. All of our work was completed as soon as they were able to get Julie to come out and mark utilities. After the trees were removed, they did a great job cleaning up the yard and you could hardly tell we had trees removed at all. Hard-working, professional, pleasant and prompt. No complaints and will definitely call again or refer to friends for any future work."

He pointed out issues with the Redbud tree that I didn't ask about and put it in the estimate at a steeply discounted price. He seemed to impress my mother in law with his businesslike manner. In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. Although the terms tree trimming and tree pruning are used interchangeably, they are very different types of tree maintenance. Tree trimming involves enhancing the appearance of your tree by removing unruly branches, providing your tree with ample sunlight and nutrients and prevents unsightly overgrowth. 

Tree pruning helps keep your trees disease-free. This process removes unhealthy growths, dead branches, and other unhealthy parts of the tree. It’s more common for deciduous and ornamental trees but not so common for evergreen trees. To determine which method you need, discuss it with a tree trimming specialist.

The best tool to cut trees is a chain saw. You can adjust your chain saw to the correct size based on the size of the branches, offering you the fastest and cleanest cut for medium- to large-sized trees. Depending on the type of chainsaw you use, you can cut through larger trees than you would with a more manual tool like an ax.

Whether tree roots will regrow after the tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some eventually tree roots die, as they lack photosynthesis; however, others can resprout from the roots and even produce new growth for up to seven years or more, if they belong to a species that reproduces through root sprouts.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves. 

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.
