"First, we had them build new retaining walls approximately 140' bordering the back and sides of our home. They removed a smaller retention wall and old concrete patio and replaced it with new walls and patio paver blocks. Behind the retention walls almost all the landscaping was replaced with a couple exceptions. All of our homes downspouts were put underground into the yard. They finished planting most of the plants just before the winter freeze. They, also, took out 2 large willow trees, ground the roots, and planted 2 new maple trees in their place. In our second project, they replaced all the paver bricks and retention walls bordering the front of our home and driveway. They built a brand new set of paver/concrete combination stairs into our yard where it was needed. There were transplants of bushes, as well. Thirdly, they put in irrigation drainage on the west side of our property which was needed. We also have used Rojas Landscaping for all of our lawn mowing, as well as spring and fall cleanups through the years. They have always done a beautiful job - we couldn't be happier with their work. Lino Rojas is a pleasure to work with. He understands all of our landscaping needs and we trust him with any helpful ideas. He always provides a solution to our questions. The company has always been professional, on time, provide quality workmanship, and always the best pricing. We couldn't recommend them more for any job you may have."

"I highly recommend their handyman services! They did an amazing job and were professional, reliable, and paid attention to every detail. Everything turned out even better than I expected, and they made sure the job was done right from start to finish. It’s hard to find someone who is dependable and takes pride in their work, but they definitely do. I will absolutely be using them again for future projects!"

Asphalt Driveways FAQs, answered by experts

Over time in IL, certain asphalt areas will show wear first. The apron where the driveway meets the street is highly vulnerable due to traffic and municipal snow plow impact. Turnaround spots and any low areas where water collects during storms are also prone to damage. Additionally, north-facing sections that melt slower and spots where snow is piled will likely require repairs sooner.

Helpful?

To make your asphalt paving project safer in Machesney Park, use temporary fencing to create clear boundaries around the work zone. It's wise to keep pets off the new surface for at least 24 to 48 hours while it cures. For long-term safety, design the space with rounded corners and smooth transitions to prevent trips, and consider a light-colored sealer to reduce surface heat.

Helpful?

For asphalt paving in Machesney Park, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is an excellent choice as it withstands the region's freeze-thaw cycles. A strong foundation requires crushed limestone aggregate, which is common in Illinois. For maximum durability, projects should use a PG 64-22 grade asphalt binder. Regular maintenance with coal tar or asphalt-based sealers will protect your investment and extend the pavement's lifespan.

Helpful?

The condition of your property is a key factor for asphalt paving in Machesney Park. An initial assessment determines if an overlay is sufficient or if a full replacement is necessary. Due to the area's flat terrain and clay soils, proper drainage and additional base preparation are critical. Professionals must also account for mature tree roots and locate underground utility lines before starting work to ensure stability.

Helpful?

A seasonal inspection routine is vital for asphalt in Machesney Park. In spring, check for new cracks or potholes caused by winter's freeze-thaw cycles. During summer, monitor for soft spots on hot days. Fall is the ideal time to apply a sealcoat before the first freeze arrives. In winter, watch for any damage from snow plows and avoid using harsh deicing chemicals on the surface.
