"Pivotal installed a french drain system in my beasement Fall 2023. Jeff and his team were very easy to work with and did an ecellent job including cleanup, Pricing was very reasonable. This is a second home for me and flooding in the basement was a constant souce of stress when heavy rains forecast. After 2 years the system has performed exceptionally well. Can't say enough about how pleased I am with the results!!!!"

"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"We hired Prarie State Siding and Window to install vinyl siding, soffit, fascia, trim, windows, and a new sliding glass door. Josh is the owner and was very open with communication. Like all projects things came up but Josh always addressed the issues and always answered when I needed to talk. He made the deadline he gave us for our project. Our home is now maintenance free on the exterior and we could not be happier. If you don’t want to talk to salesman who are only concerned about the next sale I would recommend Prairie State Siding and Window. They made sure the job was done right and at a fair price"

"First, this is nearly a 100 year old house.  So we had no idea what we would find as we started the work.  Old remodel work is obviously more difficult / challenging than new construction.

They showed up when they said they would.  If there was a change to the schedule, Joe called to let me know.  I cannot imagine much better communication about a project.

There were a few curve balls, and they dealt with them professionally.  It was a cramped space and they dealt with that.  They also had to work in a closet, above their head, to get to the old shower drain removed / installed.  That was not an easy task.

The project turned out very well.

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to repair a damaged or cracked mirror, but whether you should do it yourself depends on the extent of the damage. For minor issues like small chips, cracks, and scratches, you can use a DIY approach. Resin-based repair kits can fix minor cracks, while scratches can often be removed with metal polish, nail polish, baking soda, or a glass polisher. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.

However, for more significant damage, DIY repair is not recommended. Repairing and resilvering mirrors is a delicate process that can involve caustic chemicals and requires a high level of precision. The materials for a DIY attempt can cost over $100, which may not be a significant saving compared to hiring a professional. Since a failed attempt could result in more damage and higher repair costs, it is often better to hire a mirror repair expert from the start, especially for large, valuable, or extensively damaged mirrors.

You can use hot, soapy water, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, window cleaner, nail polish remover, WD-40, and cooking oil to remove glass labels. You can also apply heat with a hair dryer or steam cleaner. Use a plastic scraper or credit card to remove the adhesive, as a razor blade can permanently scratch your glass.

Hard water stains are caused by hard water. Hard water contains a lot of minerals, like calcium and magnesium. When water on your glass surfaces dries out, the minerals stay behind and stick to the glass. This results in a residue that looks like white cloudy or streaky spots. Call a pro to install a water softener to banish hard water problems.

Yes, you can resilver old mirrors without any issues, and in many cases, it’s is the only way to maintain and preserve old, antique mirrors. Resilvering involves stripping the old silver off of the mirror, replacing the silver, and adding a protective backing to the glass. The process costs around $15 per square foot of glass, making it a relatively inexpensive solution for making older mirrors functional again. You can buy a DIY resilvering kit, but we strongly recommend hiring a professional to avoid additional damage and mistakes.

Yes, it is possible to replace only the glass pane in a window without replacing the entire frame. However, this is a complex task that is best handled by a window repair professional. A technician can safely cut the seal, remove the old glass, install the new pane, and ensure it is properly sealed. For double-pane windows, this process involves creating a vacuum between the panes and filling it with insulative gas to restore the window's energy efficiency. Hiring a professional also ensures you select the right type of glass for your needs. This repair is almost always more affordable than replacing the entire window and frame.
