"William and his crew were punctual, courteous, and professional. William walked me through the process for the work, inspected the areas he needed to access, and answered all my questions with enthusiasm which made me feel respected as a customer. They worked diligently and when the whole job was complete, including air quality testing, he walked me through for approval. I truly think my basement was left cleaner than before they started. I had nothing to clean up, throw out, or pick up after they were done. I am so pleased I used BlueStone for my Asbestos removal project and their pricing was right in line with a competitor. Thank you!"

"My husband and I hired Chicago Asbestos & Mold Removal Professionals for asbestos that was found in our attic. Rogelio was my main point of contact and he was on top of things from start to finish. He described the entire process and seemed reasonably priced in comparison to other places. They were even able to complete the 2 day project in 1 day! I HIGHLY recommend hiring them for your project needs in relation to asbestos and mold. 😁"

"I purchased the deal on Angies List for $349, which was to include materials - including tile up to $2/sq foot for 40 feet. I was told by Tom in advance that it would be $200 to remove and then reinstall the vanity and the toilet. This seemed excessive to me, but not wanting to deal with the hassle of it, and since the BigDeal was such a good deal, we agreed to that. The Big Deal said that it included replacement ceramic tile up to $2/sq. foot (or $80 total.) I inquired about how we were supposed to pick the tile, and Tom said to purchase it ourselves and we'd get an $80 credit from him. When Tom arrived at the house he said that he had neglected to mention that the $80 for tile was actually an allowance for all of the materials, and the cost of the mortar and grout (and any other materials) already totaled more than $80 so no credit for us on the tile. I paid special attention to the cost of the tile when I was purchasing it to make sure we stayed within the $2/sq. foot because that what was included. I found that to be a bit annoying, especially since he and I had emailed about it before I purchased the deal...but I figured it really wasn't a big deal. I asked him if he would install a small backsplash around the vanity after reinstalling the vanity. (I had some extra mosaic tiles from tiling the shower, and they were already cut into strips.) He agreed, but didn't mention anything about an extra charge. When he was finished, he asked for $60 extra for the backsplash.
He completed the work quickly; and it looks good. He showed up on time, and worked hard. Overall, he did a nice job. I even asked him for a quote to replace our kitchen back splash, but we decided to do it ourselves.
The deal was a good deal - and I'm pleased with the overall project. But Tom didn't communicate well about extra fees, and what was included and what isn't. He made a comment that the extra fees were to make sure that he makes something on the job. I certainly don't want to take advantage of anyone. I think that this is the result of a poorly structured deal on Angie's List for the purpose of drumming up some new business. I would be very careful when discussing pricing with Tom.

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

According to the EPA, there is no safe level of lead in the blood, and so the maximum contaminant level goal (MCLG) for lead in water is zero. Even at low levels, lead is harmful to human health. It can also remain in the body and build up over time with repeated exposure.

If the lead paint is in a place that is not easily disturbed and is not flaking or deteriorating, you do not necessarily need to remove it. Lead is toxic when dust particles or flakes from peeling lead paint are ingested. If people are not in the area with the lead paint, it may be safe to leave it in place. You still may want to consider encapsulation with a paint formulated for covering lead-based paint, just for an added layer of protection.

You should ask a few questions to ensure that your potential lead removal professional is experienced and qualified to handle lead-paint abatement safely, legally, and properly.

  • What are your qualifications and experience removing lead-based paint?

  • Are you licensed and certified to remove lead-based paint?

  • How do you test for lead paint?

  • What methods do you use for lead-based paint abatement?

  • What do you plan to do with the hazardous material when you remove it from the home?

  • Do you do replacement and painting work or removal only?

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.

Hiring a professional for mold and toxic material testing ensures precise identification of harmful substances within a home. Professionals utilize specialized equipment and techniques, providing accurate results that inform proper removal strategies, safeguarding occupant health.
