"AJC Home Services was here this morning about 8:30 to cut down 12 very tall Evergreen trees. I watched them do this and it was very interesting to see the whole process. The 2 gentlemen were professional, hard working and thorough. They had them all cut down along with the clean-up in under 90 minutes. "Our house remodel started Jan. 25 with the promise of 1 to 2 weeks due to our smaller size home. This was even after we added a few things along the way. Overall, Jim has terrible communication! We went over a week without hearing anything about our house. We ended up paying for labor that wasn't actually done which he admitted to. There are knicks in the flooring, trim, and baseboards. I have spent a lot of time scraping paint off of the brand new floors. Things that weren't broken ended up broken. They only painted half the ceiling and used two different white paints so the walls don't look complete. While some of the workers did what they could to help with communication and completion of the project, Jim was not great to work with. Thank you to Mary and Matt for keeping in contact after not hearing from Jim for over week! When we did hear from Jim, it was to promise the house would be done tomorrow (this happened at least four different times). There was always some excuse. The original timeline was one to two weeks...it's been a month and the house still isn't done 100%. We do NOT recommend working with Jim. Even after contacting him about these issues, he will not respond."

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

Trees growing within 10 to 15 feet of your house pose serious risks, so it’s worth considering removing them. First, branches that hang over and touch your roof can promote roof damage and moss accumulation, which can lead to leaking. Second, they drop debris into your gutters, leading to clogs and overflow that can promote foundation leaks. Finally, the root systems can grow into your home’s foundation, sometimes putting enough pressure on them that the concrete wall cracks, leaving you with structural damage. As such, it’s often a good idea to remove trees growing close to your home.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large. 

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

Some trees, such as ornamental trees, black cherry, and some oak trees, release toxins into the air when burned that can be irritating to your lungs (or even dangerous) to breathe in.

A trencher can grind stumps, but it will take a lot longer and be less effective than dedicated stump grinding tools. Rather than using a trencher to grind stumps, since trenchers work best at digging in soil, use a stump grinder. This aptly named tool has blades that spin to break down a tree stump quickly and leave the roots behind to naturally decay. You can also use shears, a hatchet, a reciprocating saw, or other root removal techniques to finish the job.
