"Petey was super quick to respond to my post. He came out to do the estimate quickly and got the job done a few days later as requested. His price was super fair and he and his partner were absolutely fantastic and the job was done perfectly. I will definitely be calling on them again when it comes time to do all the plaster in the house."

Small jobs welcome

"We had flood damage and after getting several bids on replacing drywall, interior doors and closet doors as well as painting and putting in chair rail and baseboard, decided to go with Dugan's. It's always a challenge when you are dealing with unexpected repairs and aren't sure who to trust, but are we are so grateful we selected them. Sean is prompt, professional and very skilled. He brought in an additional worker for the first two days (Mike who was also awesome) and they worked diligently each day. Job was done faster and better than anticipated and Sean even took care of a couple of things that we hadn't even expected him to do. He has a work ethic beyond reproach and is such a joy to work with. We already told him we would be calling him for our next project! 5 Stars plus!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

If your home’s foundation shifts slightly over time, any seams in the drywall represent the weakest point in the wall, leading to cracks. If your home has significant changes in temperature and humidity, this can cause the drywall to swell and contract slightly, causing a crack at the weak point of the seam. If your drywall installer did a poor job securing the panels to the wall studs, this could cause a weak layout and cracks in the seams.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

Popular wall textures include orange peel, knockdown, spray sand, and smooth finishes. Orange peel and knockdown are particularly common choices for drywall as they are simple and cost-effective. Orange peel texture has a lightly bumpy surface resembling the skin of an orange, while knockdown (sometimes called knockout) looks like a stucco finish with flattened high spots. In contrast, popcorn texture has fallen out of fashion, partly due to its past association with asbestos and a shift toward more restrained interior design styles.

You’ll get better results if you soundproof the whole wall. A hole through which light can pass can also let sound waves in. Acoustical or silicone sealant applied to holes and cracks can block enough sound to make a difference. However, the more layers absorb vibrations and slow or stop sound waves, the less noise you’ll have.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.
