"Back in 2021 we had D&R come out to fix a main water break. We had to pay $4000 upfront deposit (which we were fine with) as the whole estimate was around 6,000. Come day of repair Richard told us he replaced the pipe from the meter to the house connection. He came in and charged us $5,588.00 MORE. What are we going to do? Not pay him? He also told us that due to our yard being left in complete disarray he would send a sub contractor he uses to flatten our yard back out once the dirt and sand settled. That way we could start planting grass seed and get our yard back to the way he found it. NEVER HAPPENED. We still have hills and valleys in our front yard. Fast forward to this past weekend 7/27, our main water line burst again. Instantly called Richard and was given high estimates to fix. After the last time I was skeptical but it was obvious he didn't want to help. I understand warranty and the pipe was no longer covered. We dug the hole ourselves to avoid the 2500 he quoted us over the phone to dig by hand and had another plumber come to find out D&R did not replace the hose to the connection at the house like we were charged for, instead he hooked up the black farmer pipe that was a couple feet from the house connection. (I still have the receipt) Every plumber we have spoken to since says we were completely taken advantage of and the cost of the original repair should not have exceeded $5,000. Complete extortion of the situation. So here we are not even 2.5 years later paying to fix the issue D&R made us pay for. I can not in good conscience recommend this company. We are STILL paying for this repair, and have more on top of it now that it has broke again."

"***Update: I finally had a chance to talk to Jason, the owner. We had a very cordial conversation about the events in the OP. He was open to feedback. He apologized for the bad experience I had with his business, and he committed to taking it as a learning opportunity. While I still cannot recommend the business, I will say that Jason seems like a decent guy that cares deeply about his hard-earned reputation. Thanks for taking the time, Jason.*** Initial Review: I had a clogged tub drain. I needed it snaked. I've used national brands/franchises in the past for such needs, but I'm trying to be more conscious about shopping locally, so I googled "plumbers" and Sunkel had the best rating, so I called them and scheduled an appointment. So far, so good. The guy shows up, is amiable enough, we make small talk while he scopes out the situation. He punches a bunch of stuff into his mobile device...and spits out a quote for $550. I told him to get out of my house. He tries to back-pedal with "well, I can call my boss and see what we can do"...to which I say absolutely not. Your first offer should be your best offer. If it's not, I immediately have a trust issue...because it's a big red flag that you're trying to take advantage of the urgency involved in the situation. Then this joker has the beach ball-sized giblets to try to shake me down for $95 for...and yes, I quote..."coming to the door". 30 minutes after kicking this guy out of my house, I look out my front window and HE'S SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY MESSING AROUND WITH HIS PHONE! I went outside and had to bang on the side of the truck to get his attention. I screamed "get the f--- off my property!!". He gave me a weird look and left. Cherry on top -- dude missed the driveway and now I have a big tire rut in my front yard...smh... So, what do I do? I call the office and ask for the boss. Receptionist Vicky (who was super helpful when scheduling the appointment) says he's busy. I say that's fine, I'll wait on hold. I hear an annoyed sigh (I can hear her rolling her eyes through the phone). She says I can't do that, she'll take a message. I told her the above situation. she said boss will call me back ASAP. That was 5 hours ago, not surprise, no call... So yeah, Sunkel just made my list of things to do. If she thought the first call was annoying...boy howdy, y'all are in for a treat!! So, resolution to the situation came when I called around to other local plumbers. Most couldn't do it on such short notice, but I eventually was able to get an extremely competent and find a company who sent a professional technician to my door to fix the situation inside of an hour for $220. $550 indeed, Sunkel. $550 indeed."

Yes, most states require a plumber to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Check our state licensing tool to review the local plumber guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Fixing a gas leak costs about $45 to $150 per hour for a plumber or gas line specialist. The job’s overall cost will vary depending on the location of the leak. A leaky junction or connection behind the stove or dryer will likely cost about $120 to $170. But for a leak that requires a gas fitter or plumber to excavate a pipe in the yard, the cost could rise to $1,500 to $5,000. Keep in mind that gas leaks are very serious issues, so don’t hesitate to contact a plumber or gas line specialist immediately.
Fixing a gas leak can take anywhere from one to 24 hours, depending on the location and magnitude of the problem. A gas line specialist or gas plumber should be able to give you an estimated time to completion once they evaluate the situation. If your city’s utility company works to fix a gas leak, it will likely have information available about the anticipated time for gas service to be restored.
The cost of repairing a gas leak depends on the type of leak, its severity, and how difficult it is for the repair technician to reach it. Some of the most common gas line repair costs, on average, include:
Cap a gas line: $75–$150
Gas system inspection: $150
Pressure test: $75–$500
Damaged or corroded pipe: $6–$7 per linear foot
Repair gas leak: $120–$5,000
A local natural gas plumber, gas fitter, or gas line specialist should fix gas leaks. Installing gas lines and connections improperly can lead to dangerous gas leaks and explosions. Only a certified plumber or gas line specialist should run gas lines. This is not a job to try out DIY skills, so hire a professional gas plumber or gas line specialist immediately to find the cause of the leak and fix it quickly.
