"We have once again reached out to Joe Kim at J & K Home Improvements when we had a new project planned. We were completely satisfied when we replaced our siding and roof with Joe. Now Joe and his professional crew have replaced all our windows . There are never surprises or additions from when the job is quoted. Once again we are totally satisfied and delighted with their work!! It has been a stress free experience each and every time."

His team completed our renovation on time, kept the workspace clean, and communicated with us every step of the way. The quality of the craftsmanship exceeded our expectations, and you can truly tell they take pride in their work. "Overall it went well. The only thing I would say is that initially they wanted to use a part from an entire faucet combo (cost about $168) when eventually the part could be purchased seperately for about $40.  But I asked questions and they accommodated by going pick up the part at home depot.  That was very helpful as we were able to get all the work done that day.  Jennifer was great to work with....very responsive and timely follow up.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

The cost to install a bow window can range from $1,500 to $15,000, with a national average of $3,900. The total price includes materials, which can cost between $1,200 and over $14,000, and labor, which typically adds $300 to $1,900. Several factors influence the final cost, including the window's size and frame material. For example, vinyl frames are the most budget-friendly option, while wood frames are more expensive. Custom features or energy-efficient upgrades will also increase the price. For comparison, a bay window installation typically costs between $1,000 and $7,000.

Installing a tongue-and-groove wall requires similar techniques to those associated with installing shiplap. However, because of the precision necessary to make each board fit perfectly and the increased material prices, the cost is higher than that of shiplap installations. Expect to spend between $2 and $6 more per square foot for tongue-and-groove walls versus shiplap ones.

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.
