"Andrew and his team were prompt, professional and they cleaned up after themselves everyday.  Andrew was on the job most days and he let us know at the end of everyday who was coming tomorrow and what they were doing.  I am very pleased with the service and would recommend them to friends and family alike.
We had the basement dry walled added electrical outlets and flooring.  Great company to work with.

"We called, Alex came out that afternoon, had a bid the next day for the screening. The next day he had a bid on the chimneys. He and a partner began the work and finished in a week. They cleaned up each day, and hauled away trash. Very nice to work with and very thorough. Yes, I would hire again."

"Mark was punctual, and very attentive to the job. He was very knowledgeable of the old plumbing in our house that was built in the 1920s. After what he said was a struggle to get the old piping removed the new pipes went in smoothly. He was done with the job in a couple of hours. I would highly recommend him for the odd job or his specialty of carpentry!"

"We had our bathroom remodeled due to some very old fixtures. They had done such a great job we went ahead and let them remodel our kitchen too! Thomas was very easy to work with and had some great ideas. He listened to what we were looking for and made sure we were getting everything we wanted....and more. He added his ideas to what we wanted and gave us one spectacular kitchen and bath. Everyone that visits now asks me who did the work and is he available. They paid attention to every detail and made sure it was perfect. We couldn't ask for more. If you're looking for someone to remodel your kitchen or bath, don't hesitate to give them a call. I would HIGHLY recommend Thomas and his company to any of my friends and family and know he is going to do a great job."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

A finished basement must have a heat and electrical supply with an entrance that meets building code requirements, such as a stairwell to the home's main living space. It often must include finished walls, ceilings, and floors. If the finished basement includes a bedroom, it should have a heat source, an egress window, and a closet.

Remodeling, as opposed to finishing, means altering an already finished basement by adding a bathroom, bedroom, or living area.

In many homes, an unfinished basement is an ideal place for an in-ground pool. The concrete floors, protection against water damage, and access to the ground below your home make this a large contender. Speak with a local basement remodeling contractor to ensure your space is right for the large construction.

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.
