"We had two plaster (not plasterboard) ceiling patches that needed repair and a plasterboard repair in a bathroom that required removing a toilet and the vanity. The work on all of the plastering repairs was fantastic. They also repainted the bathroom and remounted all of the bathroom fixtures so we didn't have to remove things for painting later. They started the work a week after we requested it and finished in two days. We plan to use them again when we need to minor plaster repair done to our walls."

"Terrific! We took down a wall which had crown molding and other contractors wanted to cut out the remaining molding on the 3 remaining walls and square the ceiling. Step in - Zmartin who repaired the crown where the wall used to be, prepared a mold and extended the crown another 6 feet ending with a custom edge. They also leveled the ceiling which had a 1.5 inch pitch across only 12 inches as the ceiling height of the living room and dining room did not match. They chipped the ceiling away on each side and repaired it. Today you would have no idea where the wall used to be. The work is seamless. I have several tradesmen in my family including carpenters and painters and even they commented on the great work. The crown gives the kitchen such a unique look. Plaster work creates dust which is expected and they always did a great job on the clean up too."

Small jobs welcome

"I had Mohamed come out to fix a bifold closet door that wasn’t working properly in my home. He was punctual, professional and clearly knew what he was doing. The closet door now works perfectly and he even helped with a couple of electrical outlets that were not even on my list. What impressed me most was his attention to detail and willingness to make sure everything was working correctly before he left. He was courteous, efficient, and left the work area clean when the job is finished. It’s not always easy to find someone reliable for home repairs, but this was an excellent experience from start to finish. I would gladly recommend him to anyone looking for a skilled and trustworthy handyman."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Through proper drainage solutions and compacting the foundation soil.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.
