"I wanted reflective foil installed under the joist in my attic to help cut attic Heat. The Cronkhite sales rep suggested their own insulated foil product, which I deemed Superior to what I had planned. They installed their material, we're careful about the blown in attic insulation and stepping on the existing ceiling joists. they did a good job, in a timely manner, for a job that was difficult, hot and not very pleasant."

"when we noticed that the insulation in our attic was wet, we called Home Comfort. They came, look at the insulation, confirming it was wet and we had mold in our attic. They removed the wet insulation, put in new insulation after the mold was abated. The also added more vent tiles in the attic and sprayed insulation around the sole plates in our basement."

"Everything was fine until I got the final bill. The estimate they gave was different and the final bill was different. They had put extra charges. When I called them about it, they didn't back down. They also said that because of the extra insulation they used they did they couldn't reduce the cost. Other than that, the job was done fine. At one point, the insulation had blown in, they had a little problem, but that was worked out."

"Neil Umphress explained exactly how he would complete the installation of insulation in my attic including the type of material he would use. When a problem was encountered he discussed how it could be handled and left the decision to me. They worked all day with a lunch break Then another problem occurred and I thought they wouldn’t be able to finish in a day, but they pushed through, cleaned up and even insulated an area that was not in the contract just because it needed it. I have more work and will definitely call Neil Umphress to do it."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Keep children and pets away from work areas, especially during a crawl space insulation service project. Temporarily relocate your family during spray foam applications to avoid off-gassing fumes. Seal all HVAC returns to prevent loose fibers from circulating through your Bloomington home. Change your air filters immediately after the project finishes to capture residual dust. For older homes, hire certified specialists to handle potential asbestos or lead hazards safely.

Helpful?

Watch for ice dams forming on your roof during winter, which point to inadequate attic coverage. Significant heating bill increases or frost on interior walls during IL cold snaps also indicate a failing thermal envelope. Inspect your attic for settled materials, water stains, or musty odors after spring storms. Pest activity in crawl spaces can destroy older materials, meaning an insulation service replacement is necessary.

Helpful?

Completing an insulation service upgrade directly combats Bloomington’s harsh winters and hot, humid summers. Proper materials reduce drafts and prevent heat infiltration, keeping indoor temperatures consistent. Insulating basements and crawl spaces eliminates cold floors, a frequent issue in older local homes. Upgraded insulation also stabilizes indoor humidity during spring storms, reduces outside noise from busy streets, and lowers monthly energy bills throughout the long heating season.

Helpful?

The demanding climate in IL requires high R-values to handle extreme temperatures and frequent freeze-thaw cycles. Schedule your insulation service project during the fall for optimal conditions. Summer attic temperatures easily exceed 130 degrees in Bloomington, limiting safe working hours. Winter weather restricts certain applications like spray foam, which requires temperatures above 40 degrees. High prairie winds also expose weaknesses around rim joists, demanding thorough air sealing.

Helpful?

When planning an insulation service project, check with local building departments for necessary permits, especially if making structural changes. Many older homes in Bloomington contain outdated materials like vermiculite that require careful handling. Address crawl space moisture at the same time. Also, look into energy efficiency rebate programs offered by local utility providers to maximize the value of your upgrades while meeting strict IL energy codes.
