"Poorly ran shop with an even more disrespectful customer service. Had this company replace a key at my rental property and when the technician was at the property he told my tenant "Your landlord must not be to smart if he's having me fix a something you didn't care about" When I called the company to complain I was met with and UNBELIEVABLY disrespectful person. I was given hostile tone and a complete unwillingness to accept my complaint. I was so upset with the conversation I had to hang up before anything was fixed. Later that night I was met with and EVEN MORE disrespectful text messages stating "This is a joke" and "Your complaint is not real". When I stated I will be making a complaint with the BBB he stated "Do what you want, we have been here for a long time. It won't mean anything" And if that wasent bad enough he made crazy inappropriate comments about my business. I can't fathom treating anyone the way I was treated. Never go here."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

Using a combination of tools (often store-bought plumbing tools) and brute force, a burglar can easily snap the lock on a door. Snapping a lock aims to gain access to the cylinder inside, which holds the locking mechanism. Once the thief snaps the lock, they can pick the cylinder open and walk right in.

Door locks should be changed roughly every seven years. The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear. Examples of deterioration include visible rust and difficulty opening or closing the door. Some locks can work safely beyond 10 years, but it depends on how often they are used and whether they are exposed to damaging environmental conditions like precipitation or extreme temperatures.

Typically, it can take around 15 minutes to rekey a lock. The time depends on the type of lock and how skilled you are at rekeying. The first time you rekey a lock, it may take a little longer. Once you get the hang of the process, it will move along much more quickly.

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.
