The signs of a bed bug infestation include itchy, red bite marks on the skin and various forms of physical evidence on or near your bed. Look for reddish or rust-colored stains on sheets from crushed bed bugs, as well as small, dark fecal droppings. You might also find the bugs themselves, their tiny eggs, or the pale, molted skins (casings) they leave behind. In some cases, a persistent musty odor may be present. If you notice any of these signs, calling a professional exterminator is the most effective way to handle the infestation.

Squirrels are pretty skittish creatures, and they dread the presence of rodent-chasing dogs and cats. Sudden noises and bursts of activity can send them scampering away. Anything with an element of surprise, like motion-detecting lighting, strobe lights, and noisy wind chimes, can unsettle them. Even loud radios and voices can be perceived as threatening and terrifying to these furry critters.

Roaches multiply quickly, which is why an infestation can spread so fast. Female American cockroaches lay about 12 eggs in each egg case, called an ootheca. They can lay six to 14 ootheca during their short lifespan. German cockroaches lay four to five ootheca in their lifetime, with each carrying 20 to 40 eggs. Many roaches can have 100 to over 200 offspring during their lifespan.

Although weevils aren’t harmful to humans, it’s best to throw out flour (or any food product) if it contains weevils or other pests. However, if you want to salvage food after finding pests nearby in the pantry, you can freeze it for at least four days. To prevent weevils from returning, make sure to store your food in airtight containers or inside your refrigerator or freezer.
