"I could not be happier with the work that Jeff and his team at J. W. Masonry did on my pavers. They were professional, friendly, and kind. The work was done in a timely manner, and my patio looks great."

"While hauling the concrete to our backyard, a couple of the guys ran through our neighbor's yard with their machines. However, they quickly corrected that and didn't end up doing too much damage to our neighbor's lawn. They were very conscientious about their work, and only brought in a big crew when necessary. The new patio looks fabulous! By the suggestion of the foreman, we did a colored concrete to match the house and they did an acid stain on the existing pad to tie everything together. Couldn't be happier with the outcome! The whole process was very quick and at the right price, and the extra cost of colored concrete was well worth it! Would definitely recommend Rockhard!"

"Only reason I didnâ t give 5 star is they didnâ t complete the work on time. They experimented with post installation. The experiment failed and actual completion was delayed by 2 days. Everything else was great! If you want to get the job done on time, tell them not to experiment."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

If you've decided you'd like to skip the cost of restoring a brick exterior wall after considering whether you should repair or replace brick on your house, you can consider installing fiber cement siding over brick for a cost of $2 to $6 per square foot. When done properly, cement siding over brick offers a durable, low-maintenance option that can actually reduce your home's energy costs. It's also attractive. However, improper installation or installation over heavily compromised brick can cause water damage.

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
