"Work was performed on schedule as quoted. Kept me up to date as project progressed. Did a fantastic job which really enhanced our homes efficiency. Lower lever of home is dry and temperature stays consistent on both levels now. Premier Basement System has completely eliminated the damp musty odor in our home and eliminated any concerns of water or moisture in the crawl space. Additionally the system seals off the crawl space from bugs. When the L&I inspector inspected the electrical work he commented on the quality work and the fact this was the cleanest crawl space he ever saw. Highly recommended!"

"We’ve had a lot of crews in our home for various projects over the years, and I have to say this was one of the most courteous. They worked hard, navigating through our kitchen to access the basement and I really appreciated their efforts. Thank you MTU, we now have safe walls in our cellar and fresh beams to keep the house standing ;)"

"If there were more stars check, I'd mark all of them. Mac and his team were awesome. From clearing thick forest, creating pads, arenas, driveways, complicated septic fields and more - they were great. Reliable, when other (unrelated contractors were MIA), Mac and his team were always there when needed. They went over and above in so many ways, that even my neighbors came over to personally thank him/them for being so professional and conscientious to each different neighbor's needs. They took care to leave various trees present that added curb appeal to the home setting, placed boulders around areas to protect the integrity of newly created roads and kept things neat and tidy. This was without me asking or any expectations, as I was out of state. But Mac kept me engaged with their progress by sending me updated photos of every accomplishment. I arrived with equine in tow (from several day's drive) to the property prepared for my arrival. Mac and his crew were even there to help unload my animals and set up equine accommodations. Mac and his crew are professional, organized, have GREAT equipment and I would highly recommend Sandpoint Excavation to anyone looking to do 'anything related to dirt'. They do it all!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

If foundation problems are not fixed, they will likely worsen over time, leading to more complex and expensive repairs. Neglecting a damaged foundation can cause a range of issues, including:

  • Structural Damage: Minor problems like small cracks can escalate into major structural issues. This can damage the house above the foundation and, in severe cases, lead to foundation walls caving in or a total collapse.

  • Water Damage and Pests: Moisture and water intrusion can cause flooding, mold growth, and pest infestations.

  • Health and Safety Risks: Mold can lead to poor indoor air quality and other health risks, while structural instability poses a significant safety hazard.

  • Reduced Home Efficiency: A compromised foundation can negatively impact your home's energy efficiency.

To avoid these escalating problems and costs, it's best to hire a foundation repair company to address any issues as soon as you become aware of them. The earlier problems are discovered and fixed, the lower the repair cost will likely be.

Yes, many repair services include reapplying waterproofing and UV-resistant coatings.

Water damage always poses a primary risk of mold and mildew, but growth is not guaranteed. Whether mold develops depends on several factors, including the severity of the water damage and how quickly the area is addressed. To prevent mold, you must act fast—ideally within the first 24 hours. The process involves cleaning up all standing water and thoroughly drying the affected area. If the damage is extensive, the cleanup was delayed, or you suspect mold might be present, it is safest to assume it has grown and contact a professional mold inspector or removal expert to assess the situation.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

Yes, outside leaks can easily cause damage to your home if you don’t have waterproofing measures in place. Regularly check your property for signs of a leak, ensure your home’s landscaping is at least at a 5% slope, your basement windows are sealed, and you have an aligned gutter system to catch rainwater.
