Chimney sweeping is how we got started, and our most prevalent service. We service Wood, Pellet, and Gas stoves and fireplaces. We're able to sweep and diagnose any issues you may be experiencing. While we carry a minimal amount of inventory on our trailer, we can order almost anything your fireplace may require! A large portion of what we do at Idaho Chimney Life is residential work for homeowners. We're able to perform same day installation of most Gas, Wood, and Pellet stoves and inserts. We're also able to work quickly with new construction. When all you have is new construction framing and plywood on your roof, installation of stoves and fireplaces moves quickly. Making us an excellent resource for builders and general contractors. We also do a lot of masonry and concrete work to repair existing brick and mortar chimneys!

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.

The difference between river rock and landscaping rocks is size, smoothness, and use. River rocks are smooth and flat, as if polished by water, and come in diameters between 1 and 8 inches. Landscape rock can vary in size from small pea gravel installations to car-sized boulders. However, landscaping and river rocks are interchangeable in many situations. River rock is best for pathways, walkways, garden bed mulch, water features, and planting accents, while small landscape rocks can serve as a walkway base, gravel playground areas, and filler between pavers.

Exterior brick stain can last between 10 and 20 years, on average. A number of factors can impact the longevity of the stain though, including your location and climate. Other factors like the condition of your brick, the quality of stain you choose, and the overall stain type can also alter how long your bricks look new.

New constructions need time to “settle” and sometimes, small hairline cracks occur as a result. Larger horizontal or “stair step” cracks, however, are usually a sign of a deeper, more severe issue. It could indicate an issue with the soil beneath the home, a problem caused by an overgrown tree, or another problem.

Yes, masonry is more expensive than concrete because the labor is much more involved. With masonry, your expert will build your project from the ground up, one piece at a time, ensuring they use the proper amount of mortar or grout during construction and keeping the project level or plumb. Pouring concrete can also be labor-intensive, but it’s a bit less involved. It requires building a mold, pouring the concrete, and letting it cure. The less intensive labor makes concrete a more affordable option in most cases.
