"We had a problem with our overgrown oak tree in the front yard severely overhanging over the street as well as limbs over our gutter and our backyard tree that is about 50 feet high that had many limbs overhanging the chimney as well as the gutter. Believe me, I interviewed and got bids from 4 contractors. A friend told me about Chandler Tree Service, and recommended I get a bid from them. I selected Chandler, and it was the best decision I made. Not only did I get an extremely competitive bid, but I couldn't have been more impressed with their work. A crew of 6 showed up at my door today, on time, and met with me to review again exactly what they were planning to do with both trees. And boy did they go to work. They used boards on my lawn to ensure it was protected from their lift. They did more work, that's right, more work, than what they told me they were going to do, and it was awesome. They cleaned up every limb, twig, and leave that came off my tree. I simply could not believe it. Their bid never changed, and I paid them with a check after they thanked me for the work. But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.

Whether you should remove the roots of a dead tree depends on whether they’re damaging nearby areas. For instance, if the roots continue to grow near sidewalks, driveways, or the foundation of your home, they can cause damage. If you want to plant something else in that spot, removing the roots can make it easier for the new tree or plant to grow.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.
