Small jobs welcome

"Had a roof issue & called or texted a couple of roofing companies. Denton, responded in a very timely manner, came out that day, inspecting the roof, gave approx price using my spares, & a day/time (2 days) . Confirmed bid that night. Showed up on said day & time. Fast, clean at a very reasonable rate."

"Fantastic. It took a bit of phone tag to get us on the schedule initially for an estimate but when Tanner showed up we were thoroughly impressed! Very plain and simple, had some fun demo's to show us about the differences in their product, but it wasn't like a late night tv commercial! They told us 8 weeks was the lead time for something like this and sure enough they showed up and started at the end of week 8! Installers were kind and well versed. Would absolutely recommend."

"Michael has worked on several projects for me and my business. He did a very professional job on a kitchen remodel. His countertops are amazing. Also he worked on a rental property I own, and went beyond the call of duty to repair various problem areas. He is dependable and trustworthy. I would be happy to recommend his services to anyone."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Choosing siding combinations that look good together comes down to finding textures and colors that complement each other. You want some contrast so that your home doesn’t look boring or too uniform, but you also want the materials to play off of each other so that each makes the other stand out. It’s a good idea to hire a siding professional to create 3D renderings for you so you can get a sense of what your home will look and feel like before you get started.

You should plan to stain or refinish your home's cedar siding every three to seven years to maintain its appearance and provide maximum protection, though some estimates suggest a range of four to six years. The exact frequency depends on several factors, including your local climate, exposure to severe weather like direct sunlight, rain, and wind, the quality of the initial stain application, the type of stain used, and the overall condition and quality of the wood.

For homes in harsh climates with high humidity and significant sun exposure, you should plan on staining as often as every three years, while those in milder locations may only need to do so every seven years. For the longest-lasting protection in particularly harsh climates, consider using an opaque stain.

If you are looking for a lower-maintenance alternative, you might consider vinyl or aluminum siding. While the initial installation cost can be higher, they do not require as much upkeep and can offer more value over time, especially in areas with excessive rainfall or high humidity.

Clapboard siding is traditionally made of wood, and is one of the most common types of wood siding in North America. When people talk about wood siding, they are usually talking about clapboard siding. However, not all wood siding is in the clapboard style: It can be tongue-and-groove, shake, and other designs. Also, clapboard siding can sometimes be made of different materials, like vinyl or fiber cement, so the terms are not interchangeable.

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

The cost to install or replace brick or stone siding generally ranges from $10 to $50 per square foot. The final price depends on several factors, including the specific material type, local labor rates, and any necessary preparation work, such as removing old siding. For example, different types of stone have varying costs per square foot: natural stone ($4.50–$35), stone veneer ($11–$13), faux stone ($6–$9), and cultured or manufactured stone ($5–$8).
